fentuz Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 On quiet day, i was "forced" to fit a supertrap and initially, it went pink. I didn't pay much attention... The supertrap is stainless steel, i assume it might have some chromium in it. I know Cr6+ can give some pink coloration (bad sign in the industry i work for). Have you clean the exhaust tip with cleaning agent? If some residus are left, could they react with high temperature?
Steve J Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I just read an interesting article on contaminated fuel causing deposits with a pink tinge in an exhaust and on the lambda sensor. It is known that if antifreeze gets into the combustion (HGF) that it can leave pink deposits, but also if the fuel is contaminated. Seems that silicone levels are to blame. Most types of antifreeze contain silicone but also recently a fuel additive (tolluene) was found to be contaminated with silicone in the case I read about. If you notice it still going pink after changing fuel / filling station then I guess that can discount contaminated fuel.
