chris_h Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Now no S2 being gay jokes..... When I drive my car on track the soot residue inside and on the lip of my exige exhasut pipe is a light pink colour. It's a n/a toyota engine with sports cat and 2bular exhaust, lotus sport ecu with trd flter. Is this normal or a sign of something e.g running to lean etc? BTW The car is running really well at the moment and is pretty quick. This only happens when driving on track at high revs etc. When on the road it produces very little soot but its black.
John FISH Curtis Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Not heard of that before. A few things come to mind.... Fuel additives Rust in exhaust system Water vapor
IAN G Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Off topic but whats your opinion on the 2bular exhaust , toss up between one of them and the hangar 111 signiture system for me
scatty Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I've got the 2bular and dean has the hanger111. Maybe you need to compare the 2. They do look slightly different Especially at the tip. Both look a lot more aggressive than standard...
Steve J Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 As said at the weekend it could be bits of your cat disintegrating
dobbo Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Mine goes black. Oh, hold on - that was the old engine ;-)
Martin R Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Mines Black as your hat with no Pink bits on a mans S2
Stumason10 Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Mine goes clean as a whistle when its been spanked. Sooty rest of the time.
scatty Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Mine tends to be a bit sooty, but after a darn good thrashing at blyton not a dickie bird.... Maybe try a different brand of fuel , see if that makes any difference????
chorton_1 Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 It's difficult to say without seeing it (maybe post a pic) but I agree with Johns first reply. 1) Fuel additive in source fuel (unlikely) or aftermarket (has someone been spiking it with Redex?! ) 2) Water vapour on standing or early startup Usually the pipes will go from dark soot under rich running, to a paler cooler or no deposit under leaner running. Pink is unusual EVEN in S2's...,.. Oh, am I correct in assuming the coolant level is stable?
chris_h Posted August 5, 2012 Author Posted August 5, 2012 Yep, coolant level is exactly the same. Should have taken a photo after the trackday, but now that I've been driving on the road its gone back to a slight black soot. Always run the car on shell v-power (or other super if no shell garage around) but never added anything to the fuel. Good excuse to book another trackday, just so i can show you guys what it looks like!!
darryl Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Mine goes clean as a whistle when its been spanked. Sooty rest of the time. Same on both of our cars
