If you look carefully at the photo you can just see the friendly french police officer writing out my ticket and carefully counting my money.

Thats why we never speed going to and back from the Le mans weekend. I have seen them hiding in bushes and all sorts. IIRC Ladders got a monster fine one year.

The rest of the time they are ok in our experience. We have even been saved a couple of times by other french motorists flashing to warn of speed traps. Bad luck and put it down to experience. Im sure the rest of the experience made up for it :)

One of the guys I was with got caught in his 911 on the way down so we were all quite well behaved afterwards. They got me on a short stretch before Rouen where I was trying to catch up with my group. I never saw the guy with the speed gun but they singled me out in the toll booth queue. I am sure it brought a smile to all those around me who were travelling back.

Oops. Don't worry, they're just pulling over the coolest cars in the best colours :)

Hope your fine wasn't too much.

just been too. probably same trap, around rouen area. radar at side of road well before services - car came out to pull over an s2000 a lot later even though it had been in the services, so must have been waiting for him.

still, indianapolis etc was open this am :)

Mahejawa - was it your black Exige S that I pulled out in front of about half way between Rouen and Calais? Apologies if so, I honestly didn't see you. I can only assume that you were making up the time that you lost at the side of the road speaking to that nice gendarme - rapide is the only word for it!

did you have agood trip????

Chris - I had plenty of people pull out on me but I don't think it was me as I was thinking how disappointing it was in not seeing many fellow Lotus drivers on route.

I've had one and a half run ins with the French Police. The first, was about 13 years ago. I had a value spec Fiat Punto, and I got pulled over for them 'to check I had spare bulbs and a triangle'. Coincidentally, I was on my way to or from Rouen.

The second was last year when we went to Paris in Elsie. A Police car blocked our exit from a toll plaza. They gave me a good look and then pulled forward, before reversing back again. I guess they must have been after the other UK ruby red S1 Elise near Paris!

I didn't see any other lotus on the way down but then saw plenty on the way back. Including three sat on the inside of indianapolis (i think) when i did a quick run round the open bits of the circuit on monday morning.

Scatty - it was great - just as good as when i went two years ago, probably better because i went in the lotus. I was in a campsite full of porsche club members but the attention the elise got was amazing. I came back two years ago thinking "how can i pursuade my wife its a good idea to buy a sports car". This time its "how can i pursuade my wife its a good idea to keep my sports car". The place just gets under your skin. Its amazing. If you've never been you really should.

Hope anthony davidson is ok and makes a full recovery. If you haven't seen his crash then look it up on youtube. Scary stuff.

I have heard many times how good it is and would love to go, maybe someone could lead an MLOC convoy next year and show us the way ?
