scatty Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 well, new tyre time is finally here and i was waiting till my week off coupled with getting blyton out of the way. now its time to order, i find r1r's are out of stock, r888 are out of stock, and the rears of ad08 are out of stock at camskill..... ideally i wanted the r1r over the 888's. with all this rain and god damn awfull weather, ive been put off the 888's on a daily drive... i think hanger and seriously have some of the above mentioned in stock, but are more expensive...im as tight as chris edeson by the looks of things....semi northerner!!!! i didnt want to put some t1r's on the old girl, but its either that or hang on untill my tyre of choice is back in stock.... my little friday night rant over.......

scatty Posted May 4, 2012 Author Posted May 4, 2012 cheers eddie, think they are more expensive thean the 888's, but il give them a ring for sure....again bit weary of using them all day everyday.....come rain or shine, frost or boiling....i thought the r1r would be a compromise... but il buzz them deffo... cheers...
DeanB Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Scatty 48s are much better than you might think on wet roads, although you need to go very easy on standing water. I drove itgivesyouwings motor in the wet the other week and it felt great. The biggest problem in my opinion is that they are soft and therefore don't last long. When you are as tight as you and I that is a problem....

scatty Posted May 5, 2012 Author Posted May 5, 2012 I'm not bothered about the wet or rain. Standing water yes! After last Sunday's downpour I dread to think what semi slicks would have been like. I think I'm more bothered about the really cold frosty mornings come December. I really need a 2nd set of wheels. I've emailed Adams and page for a quote. See what they say, camskill say 2/3 weeks for 888s. What a palava!
rm0rgan Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 If you are using the car everyday then I would go for something like Falken ZE-912's - more than adequate for daily driving and you wont feel like you are throwing £20 notes out the window as your drive along - they are also 100 times better than 048's in the rain and dealing with standing water Purists will say it will spoil the handling on the car but if you got anywhere near their limit on the road then you're probably driving way too fast and need to be shot. Cheap at £300 or so quid for 4 - Mine have covered 10,000 miles so far and still have plenty of grip - I drive 15k a year in my Exige and have used Khumo's in the past but these are much better and come in the correct sizes :-)
scatty Posted May 9, 2012 Author Posted May 9, 2012 i think im going to take a gamble on some ad08's... adams and page have some in stock....they seem to get a pretty good write up. just a bit worried about the 205 on the fronts....but it surely cant make it that much lower, 1/2 cm if my maths are correct....

Isn't it the profile that determines ride height? I thought 205 was the width (or have I got that wrong?!) I ran 205's instead of 195's when I had Khumo's fitted and they fitted fine - just rubbed the arch now and again but nothing much.
scatty Posted May 9, 2012 Author Posted May 9, 2012 im not sure. most tend to fit 205/45/16 with no issues. standard height.. im hoping they wont rub....i hope you are right and the height doesnt lower....
scatty Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 some nice new ad08's will be with the garage 2mz..... cheers eddie for steering me towards adams and page, they were the only place with any ad08's in. the usual suspects either had fronts but no rears and vice versa. same applied to the r1r.... and very pleasant folk they were too.. no idea of their set up, but over the phone it reminded me of open all hours, granville and arkwright, all in brown overall jackets....im sure thats not the case....id recommend them.....
MattBancroft Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I was thinking the same due to the wet weather, and being sensible and thinking of Ad08 or R1-R...mmm nice tread...but then i remembered that i drive a crap old punto to allow me to not be sensible, and the most fun i have is that last 5% on track days....so i went with some 888's. Fitted on Friday at demontweaks in wrexham then a torrential wet wales weekend around llanberis. Found them to be surprisingly great in the wet. Obviously the laws of physics apply to standing water, but most water isnt standing water, so for most times and when i need it most on track, the more track based tyres are great for me personally. Seem much better than my old none lts A048s but that could be a number of factors...age etc. best to try all and make ur own mind up i spose. I had as much fun on some ebay bought vulcanised rubber on my old S1 as with sticky stuff, plus i learned different skills that track day. If i commuted more all year round i might get some R1-R or AD08. I still might. Cheaper than semi slicks too.
fentuz Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I drive on R1r or r888. The r1r is good (ask miles); almost as good as r888 except with hot weather on track... The added cut make it heatting up quickly... If you start a session ok, the end of it is interesting. @ combe, i did the opposite, start at low pressure with weird behavior the 2-3first last and then, great fun...
