Cci Renewal Quote Is Insane!

Seems odd, my CCI renewal was slightly cheaper than last years quotation. This year I limited the mileage and am now paying a third of the cost including the trackday allowance.

Chris are you on unlimited mileage?

Hi G

Yeah they have sent me it with unlimited miles and also 5 years no claims when its 6 this year, so im going to drop it down to 3k or 5k what ever they do the lowest, make sure they have my correct no claims, and also my MLOC discount. Also they have the nerve to add a "CCI CHARITABLE DONATION" that will be coming off as a matter of principal. i am a tight northerner after all.

im expecting a call from them today so i will post when i hear what the news is...

Hi Chris,

I felt exactly the same when mine jumped from 560 - 844, I was fuming!!!!. (5000 limited miles)

CCI only go upto a maximum of 5years NCB but they will guarantee any NCB you had before making mine 9 years. REIS came in best for me at £520 with 4 track days, adrian flux second at £550 (no track days) and henderson taylor £640 (with 6 track days).

When I phoned CCI they said there's nothing they can do about it and everyones renewal that is from May onwards will be going up.

In one way i'm glad it's not just me they rammed it up for some strange insurance criteria that I personally fell under. Don't worry it's just CCI are not competitive this year, so just ring around.

mine was £410 last year and they have quoted me £868!! no justifacation to more than double my insurance! its an absolute outrage!

email to watchdog is on the cards!

You sound as pee'd off as me when I first opened the renewal quote. I was out for their heads!!! Luckily they was closed and I had time to calm down before I spoke to them.

Just write them off and ring around, i'm sure they'll say the same crap to you... "the underwriters this and that, blah blah blah"

You'll be able to get your renewal back down, just not with CCI.

well so far i have had a quote from REISS at £680 only on 3k miles though and £111 to add another £2k miles when needed.

still rubbish as last year was £410

blimey chris!!!! thats a stupid increase..

it might be worth just trying the general run of the mill insurance companies, and then taking out seperate track day cover when needed. i have unlimited milage on mine and only pay £600 (daily drive). im 39 (hard paper round)

id be telling them to take a running jump, which im sure you have done this morning....

Mine is also my only daily drive, 5000 limited miles, Commuting to and from one place of work as well social etc, stainless exhaust, TRD air filter & Nitrons, 9years NCB, i'm 29 and this is the start of my 5th year of ownership.

Track day cover when needed can cost £150-200 each time on a £15-20k car, so if you're going to do more than 1 it's worth paying the little extra.

wow. well what a morning.

spoke to CCI at LENGTH!!

and, my £860 renewel is now £495 a £85 increase from last year.

basically i got the whole speal of its the underwriters, we dont want to become a personal insurance company we want to be competition or social and domestic use only. she told me most policies with commuting on them would go up by at least 50% as this is what would help lose customers of this nature and the sports part would stay. she said however, this would only last a couple of months as they were doing it as a test to see how many would leave. so people from jult time maybe alright as she said the high loading for commuting would go.

I basically told her i paid £410 last year and no way in hell was i paying double, she made a couple of amendments to my policy main one being mileage - the renewal was on unlimited, so i knocked it down to 5000. she said i had 2 options:

1, SDP&C = £495

or

just SDP no C = £390

she also said of all the claims they have had in last 18 months, 25% have been lotus and the underwriters want to recoup some money!

at £495 i have no complaints and will take it as none of the others will do that. the £495 also covers track days.

I would still try henderson Taylor, the guy i spoke to was very helpful and they also include 6 track days.

I managed to get mine even cheaper than last year by not going with CCI

I hate it when people throw statistic at you, they never mean anything.

25% of their claims are lotus policies.... yet they only insure 2 seater sports cars & track cars. I bet lotus probably cover the majority of their business and caterham and similar are only a very small percentage.

Say if 75% of their policies are lotus but only 25% of their total claims are lotus that would suggest that lotus owners are less likely to claim than any other their other vehicle policies.

If lotus only cover 5% of their policies and 25% of claims are lotus then they would be correct in saying they are high risk.

So without knowing how many of their policies are actually lotus that really doesn't mean anything.

TBH, i think its a load of shite that they gave me. im 28 this year have a decent car and they wanted to try take the piss a bit. maybe business is hard for them in the recession. still no excuse to try and rip us all off.

i did try henderson taylor and like for like policy with them is about £30 more... i told them what i got cci down to but they wouldnt match it which is a shame considering its not going to take much to get my business!!

ah well.. the car will be insured come renewal date and many more happy Lotus miles will be done

but if we can all try not to crash so that this doenst happen next year too hahaha

If they scare off the majority of their lotus policies, i'm sure they'll be even more competitive next year :)

Glad to hear you got them down on price Chris. You'll have to let me know the magic word for when my renewal comes through.

I'm not sure if your age is impacting on the costs too? I'm sure that the minimum age band for sensible quotes is 30? It seems to rise with you as you get older!

I Remember them saying Laura was expensive, I agreed and said about her handbag and shoe buying sprees!

I dropped my mileage right down and will be adding more when I get close, last year I ended up paying for mileage I never used.

You do realise we will be driving to lemans in reverse? :-)

just thought id give you the comparrison of prices as i have them all now....

to begin with i got a renewal of £860 from cci... now i have:

CCI - £495 5k miles

REIS - £688 3k miles

Henderson T - £502 5k miles

Adrian Flux - £1263 5k miles

Direct Line - £1800 5k miles

I got home from work today and spotted the dreaded CCI envelope on the doormat. Sure enough the renewal quote is 65% higher than last year - £595 v £360. Looks like i'll be having a similar conversation on monday morning and giving the companies quoted above a call :-(
