layzeedude
So I'm formulating plans of a road trip to Italy. I've put together a route with the help of Google Maps and wondered if anyone has any ideas or suggestions. Was thinking of putting the Stelvio Pass in between Stasbourg and Milan but its a little out of the way. kayj_prod
Very jealous! I love the idea off going driving for a week, but the Mrs doesn't. She got fed up driving from Vegas to San Francisco. No tips really, but I last did a similar journey in my late teens- only that was in a Transit. I got major truck drivers arm as it was mid July it was hitting 46C in southern Italy and Greece. I hope you'll take lots of pics to fire back to us over here!
layzeedude
No idea when this will happen. Just a plan at the moment. Need to put some costs together and figure out when's the best time of year to go but it's a start!
JonS
I get far too involved in planning trips!! Just ask R.I.B. I've done 3 Euro trips in 2 years and really enjoyed every minute of them! Without sticking my oar in too much lol If you want to go to Stelvio, thats all well and good, but there are many more roads that are better. It's worth taking a couple of days if you can to go around some of the Alps (Furkapass, Sustenpass, San Gottardo, Grimselpass, etc, etc.) Dont get me wrong Stelvio is great, even more so to look at it in wonder, but there is a lot to enjoy in that area. Also, we did over 500 miles driving from Troyes to Cannes, that was completely knackering, especially in the searing heat. That day I actually drove a whole tank of fuel without stopping! (which I wouldn't recommend!) Your drive from Reims to Turin is not as long, but still a long day so be aware of that. I've attached the itinerary I did for our parents so they could keep track of where we were (this is more or less what we did, apart from the detours which we didn't do and also day 12 where we headed into Germany on a more direct route instead of going into Austria) As it happens, I'm currently planning a trip to Scotland to find the highlands finest! I just can't stop! HTH Jon Alps_Itinerary_v2.pdf
Fiona
I've done Italy. Once I have more time over the weekend I'll post up our experiences and itinerary. Reims to Turin is quite a hard slog. Mind you, I was 6 months pregnant at the time so that didn't help.
