Mugello 2010

Hi everyone,

Hopefully if everything goes to plan for this year's foreign excursion I am driving to Mugello for the Moto Gp at the beginning of June, will be going via Stelvio (well why not!) then on to Mugello.

Am just in the early planning stages and still waiting for confirmation from parties who may or may not be coming, if anyone has any advice as where to stay in Stelvio and other tips that would be welcome.

Plan at the moment is leave Calais tuesday 1st June and arrive in Mugello on Friday 5th June, what happens in between doesn't matter! (Although I do plan to visit Reims on the way) will be camping in Mugello (booking that when we arrive, ad hoc) then leaving Mugello on Monday 7th June to start the drive back, probably via Modena.....

We've stayed in Davos the last couple of years on our stelvio trips.

(called the sunstar hotel 4* with swimming pool etc - http://www.sunstar.ch/english/davos/sites/hotel.htm)

Its a ski resort with lots of hotels and a few bars / places to eat.

But importantly the road from there to stelvio is amazing.

We stayed at the Hotel Lac Salin in Livigno, real nice place, used by several other MLOC'ers. Livigno is a tax haven as well, so chance to get the cheap stuff!

The drive from Livigno to Stelvio is fan-bloody-tastic! But then again, so is the drive from Davos to Stelvio! :P

Reims is a great place as well. Although they had barricaded off the main remaining grandstands last June when the summer before they were all still open. Still, you can tear through there with some great revurb!

In early june, there is a possibility that the stelvio pass may still be closed due to snow. Its unlikely, but worth checking nearer the time.

As Jon says, the hotel lac salin is very nice and well placed for stelvio.
