Jonathan E Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Fwiw, Many moons ago when Nick Adams had time to answer questions on the Lotus cars forum he even went as far as saying Lotus wouldn't recommend harnesses in an Elise unless they were five point, ie: two straps bolted through the floor(crotch straps I think). His reasoning for this was the fact that with a three point harness in a high speed impact there is a chance of being able to submarine(slip under) the hip belts. It caused quite a stir at the time and opened a huge can of worms across different forums with opinions ranging from "he's talking out of his ar$e and as I am a track day God I know better" to "I am also a track day God but he is the technical God of the Elise and must therefore be correct" or something along those lines.... I've had three point harnesses in my Elises and they always had bolted bars with original seats and I was always happy with them. I won't bother with the latest Elise as it won't be going on track(sacrilege) and to be honest I found them a bit of a pita for normal road use. Oh, and I can't afford them either, which is probably the single biggest reason in truth. Just my 2p worth and the first bit above doesn't necessarily reflect my personal opinion, so don't be flaming me ....alright Regards Jon
Martin R Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I dont think anyone has advised anyone to do anything. I have just stated the facts as i see them. That is what a forum is for IMO. As i posted before you pays your money and make your choice. I would hope / expect people on MLOC to be intelligent enough to make their own mind up.
stockhome Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 These came up on seloc and are very cheap and light too Triton Race Seats I understand they need some spacers to fit to seat runners
richbk Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 im ever so glad i asked, i love a bit of debate!! as we are a freindly forum, its invaluable for being as well informed as possible before making a decision. to clarify my set up, i have standard, non holed seats and a drilled bar with fixed harness points. safety is and should always be the driving factor for you and any passanger, over astetics, cost etc. but i somethimes think some suppliers up the potential risks to help sales just my pov richbk
Gary ZBJ Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 Hmm, they do look very cheap, I wonder how comfortable they are? To re-assure everyone on the post, I have got the kit to mount these harnesses with bolts (And the kit to retain the 3 point belts as well), however I was concerned that even with bolting the harnesses, was it still good enough........... I will 100% not just be wrapping them round the bar. The chap who I purchased them from did have the eyelets to modify the existing seats but I did not even entertain that idea. Appreciate everyones thoughts and feedback Gary. These came up on seloc and are very cheap and light too Triton Race Seats I understand they need some spacers to fit to seat runners Was typing when Richbk posted. That is the same set up I will be running, but I am not as tall as you. Like you say, good to have a freindly debate and be best informed when making a decision. I don't want to spend money I don't need to, as plenty of other more fun things to buy, however in fitting these for additional safety I don't want to hit the steering wheel should I have a smash Gary
