surrealillusions Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 been made reduntant due to the credit crunch. And only 1 weeks notice as i'm still within the 6 month probation period when joining (only joined the company in june). Although they will still pay me for that week even though i dont have to go in. So now im on the look out for another web designer/developer role...seems the rich get richer (as they own the business, laying people off) and the poor get poorer (the ones who get laid off)... *deep sigh...*
Scott_Mac Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Sorry to hear mate We've worked with these guys in the past, and they claim to be hiring... not sure what you're skill set is but hey! http://www.clevercherry.com/

surrealillusions Posted October 15, 2008 Author Posted October 15, 2008 thanks...have tried reed in the past..incidentally, one of their sites is made and hosted by the company that i've left...will try them again (reed that is...not the other company)... Although shrewsbury maybe too far, and i want to try and stay out of central birmingham.
fentuz Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 They're doing the same where I am... more news next week... been told today...
Ladders Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Not exactly a good time to be job hunting either so it seems!
JonS Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Designers are always the first to go Sorry to hear your news Nick, I'm going through the same thing at the mo, (although not 100% confirmed yet). Incidentally, I got my current job thru reed, but I'm in such a specific industry you can only contact competition direct! Good luck with the hunt.
Snapper Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Sorry to hear the bad news. But if you are a web designer, have you thought about building yourself a website and being a self employed webdesigner working from home? Just a thought, your overheads might be far cheaper and you might be able to offer your services at a more afford able price to people who might not otherwise want to spend the sort of money companies with offices ask. It is just a thought...... is the cup half full or empty situation.... Best of luck anyway
S1 Steve Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 sorry to hear this seems it is happening everywhere. I'm waiting on my fate as we speak. Good luck with a new job.

What am I saying, just have 10 kids and apply for your government sponsored plasma tv....
Laura Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Sorry to hear this but good luck with finding something new. I saw my friend last night and she told me how everyone at her company has had their hours cut down to 4 days a week as they are struggling to keep people on
Guest father4justice Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Sorry to hear it - good luck with the job hunting.
Dr H Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Sorry to here the news and good luck finding something else. Don't be too hard on the owners though, it might not be great for them either My business partner and I had to lay people off (which makes us feel like crap) and we've not taken any salary for the past 10 months so we can keep others on.
surrealillusions Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 Thanks everyone, I'm searching as we speak for new jobs. And good luck everyone else too in a similiar situation during this credit crunch. But if you are a web designer, have you thought about building yourself a website and being a self employed webdesigner working from home? Just a thought, your overheads might be far cheaper and you might be able to offer your services at a more afford able price to people who might not otherwise want to spend the sort of money companies with offices ask. I already have a website (see my siggie), but its photography based, I could set up another one though based on web design and see where that goes...Cant see any harm from it. And the company I've left said that the decision was one they do regret but was forced into and they would look at taking me back in 12 months time...but that doesn't help for the next 12 months unfortunatly...
