  1. Good evening everyone, This post is a bit more doom and gloom than my usual material but I need some advice on how to proceed with an exhaust I ordered from 2Bular (Jim) some months back. I spoke to Jim before placing the order and had a lovely chat. I placed the order the following week (circa 20th July) with a rough date to aim for - the WC 14th of August. I spoke to Jim the following week for an update; again had a lovely chat and a welcome update on progress. I had a text the following Monday (August 29th) saying an order from "TUBULAR TECHNIK LTD" was due to be delivered etc. However, I never received anything and sent an email to Jim to ask what was going on. I heard nothing back so tried to phone him but wasn't able to get through. Not to worry - people live busy lives and can't man the phone 24/7. But we are mid-October and I still have no exhaust and cannot get ahold of Jim. Just get "the number is unavailable" and no opportunity to leave a voice mail! Makes me think my number might be blocked but there's every chance I'm overthinking. I have yet to try someone else's phone to confirm suspicions... Has anyone else had this experience, and what should I do going forward? I have paid already as I ordered through his website. Any suggestions are welcome, Cheers, Iowan

  4. All, It has been some time since I last updated the blog. All these years on, the little Lotus is still going strong. She is now 20 years old and looks and drives as good as ever. The love for this iconic car remains. My days of mods and getting under the car every weekend are over I think. I now simply enjoy the ownership experience and driving! Oh, I also do a little bit of polishing - just a little. This car is simply pure magic and medicine to all gloominess. 😁
  5. Elise named overall winner out of 17 automotive icons including Porsche 911, Land Rover, Ford Mustang, Mini and VW Beetle Elise took more than a quarter of the total vote from tens of thousands of Autocar readers around the world The Lotus Elise has been awarded the prestigious Readers' Champion award at the Autocar Awards 2019. In a recent poll, Autocar readers were invited to vote for their favourite icon from a list of 17 cars that are still in production and using the same name since launch. Each of the selected icons were championed by a different member of the Autocar editorial team. Receiving the award were Lotus Cars’ Design Director, Russell Carr and Head of Concepts Richard Rackham. Russell Carr said: “The Elise as a concept demonstrated the purity of Lotus design perfectly. As a design, it has developed and evolved over the years, but the essence of the Elise has always remained and that is one of the reasons why it has become such an icon. And of course, I greatly appreciate the support from the Autocar readership who clearly recognise this iconic status.” Richard Rackham, previously the Vehicle Architect behind the Elise, added: “The Elise was a revolution, as not only did it demonstrate the benefits of lightweight to an industry that insisted on higher power and the increased mass that goes with it, but it also pioneered the use of extruded and bonded aluminium technology which is now so ubiquitous in global small volume vehicle manufacture.” Mark Tisshaw, Editor of Autocar, said: “Displaying the appetite for pure driving machinery we’ve always been certain they had, our loyal readers have decided by an overwhelming margin that the Lotus Elise is this year’s 2019 Autocar Awards Readers’ Champion. Readers chose the Elise for its unwavering emphasis on driving factors: fine steering, handling and brakes made more effective by its compactness and light weight. For the record, we at Autocar enthusiastically applaud the decision.” The bonded and extruded aluminium chassis technology that Lotus introduced first to the industry continues to evolve and improve. Future Lotus cars will incorporate this and new lightweight technologies, further strengthening Lotus’ position as a leader in agile, high performance and lightweight sports cars. The Elise was not the only Lotus to have been included in the voting process, with the Lotus Seven as another of the 17 icons.

Stunning Aubergine Lotus Elise 111R Car Spec 2005 111R (Aubergine) Only 11 ever made in the UK (Vehicle of provenance to prove) 57,800 miles 2Bular 6'' Twin Exit Exhaust TRD Airfilter Black Alloy Wheels Black Fuel Filler Surround (Original Available) ECU Remap 5600rpm Cam change I've now owned it for over 3 years and had built some fantastic memories both on my own and on trips out with my Wife in it. The car has never let me down and been very reliable. I've been a member of NYLOC/MLOC for a while now and had some amazing trips with both clubs. The car itself has been to many car shows and clearly well recognized among the community. Highlight for me (As shown in picture) is being taken to my wedding in convoy with a few friends from the Lotus community. Condition of the car is excellent given that it's now a 13 year old car. Most people who see it would suggest a lot newer based on visual condition. Age related marks can be found however very few and consummate with being a low down sports car. I've tried to keep the car as original as possible with the below exceptions: 2Bular 6'' Twin exit exhaust (Sounds just right) TRD Air filter Black Alloy Wheels (Superb Condition) 5600rpm Lower Cam change (Makes the car a whole lot more drivable) All ball joints recently changed and drop links Brand new Clutch just fitted I've always ran the car on super unleaded and given the car a good warm up before heading off anywhere. It has recently been given a full clean MOT with no advisories at all. The car has been serviced every year by dealer/lotus specialists however this year was the first time It's been serviced by me. This is a basic service with all nescessary oils changed with only the best stuff. I've pampered the car throughout my ownership and take great pride treating it to a clean/polish using god knows how many products at no expense spared again. Points to note: (The Negative) Drivers window requires new top guide blocks (Already have new ones ready to fit) Waist seals on windows have corrosion near the mirror (Very common) Couple of small marks here and there (Very few given age of car and due to near full armourfend protection) Driver air vent fin broken but replacement can be sourced for less than £20 That's about all I can think of negative wise. As said originally, I am currently looking at options and this is dependant on genuine interest. This car is much loved and I imagine there to only be 4 or 5 currently left on the UK roads in this variant/colour. u2u me for enquiries. Car will be available to drive away from 8th August if right price/deal can be made. Test drives/viewings available upon request from 21st July to 3rd August depending on finding a slot/time to suit. Thanks.

One of, if not THE most sought after Elises in the entire range, this is the S3 Supercharged with the proper Toyota 1.8 2ZZ engine, before it was replaced by the 1.6. Originally metallic grey (see final photo), the car was professionally wrapped, internally as well as externally, by well known vehicle wrapper, Dave Bean, of Bean Vinyled last summer. The car was serviced 50 miles ago, including new front discs and pads, and new rear pads. Wheels have been upgraded to the Exige version with almost new Yoko AD07s all round, and the air box has been upgraded to a TRD for extra supercharge whine! With a full leather interior, electric windows, upgraded Bluetooth head unit (not that you’ll be able to use hands free, but you can listen to music!), both keys, push button start, LED lights front and rear, all paperwork, MOT until December, private plate, only two previous owners, and having covered only 36,500 miles this car as ready as it’ll ever be for summer fun, I just don’t get chance to drive it anymore. Nothing else in its price bracket turns more heads! Feel free to message with any questions. Please include your phone number if you’d like me to call you back. £26,500ono NO TEST PILOTS.

Hi guys Apologies for the shameless plug, but thought some of you might be interested... As well as being a proud owner of an S2 Elise, I'm also a graphic designer and have just put together a range of Elise/Exige t-shirts, inspired by the famous Colin Chapman quote: 'Simplify, then add lightness'. They're available from www.mercht.com/u/kerm111t for a limited time (14 days from today) and come in a choice of five colours. Choose from the S2 Elise 111S, 111R or Exige (or all three if you're so inclined!) I'd really appreciate it if you could spare the time to take a look, provide me with any feedback and (obviously) would appreciate it even more if you choose to purchase one! Would be fantastic to see a few being worn at next year's LiTP! If you like them please feel free to spread the word within the Lotus community, or if there are any other designs you'd like to see just give me shout (thinking about adding the S1 Elise and V6 Exige at some point in the future). Thanks Rob

Mak XLR light weight wheels in Toyota fitment. Perfect fit for an S2 Exige, may fit Elise? Shod with Advan A048's with legal tread. Easily enough tread for another track day or two. Wheels are in immaculate condition, no kerbing at all. Would make a great upgrade from the OEM y spokes or to have as a second set of wheels with winter or all season tyres on. Two of them have lost the lotus badge off the centre caps. Caps are still present, just needs a couple of those gel coat stickers from eBay. Ive also got some more semi slick tyres that can be included for the right price. I have 4 tears and 2 fronts. All have at least 3mm of tread. Collection from NN14 (30secs off the A14 in Northamptonshire). Can also arrange Collection from Northampton or Leicester.

  19. I had given up looking for a track car. I had resigned myself to the fact that there was nothing I actually wanted to buy out there in my price range. Imprezas, which could be had for that money, were so rusty they needed medical insurance and the word on the forums was that they were hellishly expensive to run on track days, and tended to ingest engines and gearboxes. Then I accidentally went back to looking at the Elise. I'd always wanted one since they first came out. I'm a particular fan of the rear styling of the S2. Looking around I realised that I could get a leggy one for under £10k. This seemed like a bargain and I convinced myself, through proper "man maths" that it would actually be cheaper than a £1000 track car in the long run, AND I could drive it at weekends. Unfortunately, one test drive later, and I realised that the power output of the base spec models wasn't going to be enough. That subaru I had test driven was still in my memory and I wasn't going to settle for anything slower. I kept looking, but the higher power output variants of the S2 were just too expensive. I knew what I really wanted was an S2 Exige, but I just couldn't justify £20k. But it was starting to look like that was the only "sensible" option. Then by accident, I spotted an old S1. I hadn't been looking for S1's, certainly not over £10k. And I was amazed at how strong the values of S1s had become over the last 12 months. The S1 I had spotted was far from standard, it had had all the track modifications I was going to do to a standard car already done, and then some. Plus, most importantly of all, it had a full Turbo Technics supercharger upgrade. The fact that it was also one owner from new and had only done 27k miles, was just icing on the cake. Some more man maths later, and I had secured the purchase of an S1 track slag with a 190hp TT supercharged K series on Nitrons with full race harnesses, harness bar and removable steering wheel. I was a very happy bunny. I figured, as long as I didn't bin it on a circuit, then it should appreciate in value and be a fairly sound investment, in fact costing me LESS than that £1000 track car I had started looking for. Yes, man maths at its best. As I write this, the car is in the garage having a few details sorted out. Then it will be coming home to be prepped for its first track day on the 19th July. Myself and my two co-conspirators are really looking forward to it. Next time: One track, one car, three drivers, what could go wrong?...
  20. Sanctum

    First Love

So about a year ago, I decided I wanted to do some track days. I wasn't getting any younger and a mid-life crisis was in the offing. After a few months searching the classifieds for that £1000 perfect track car, I realised that my budget wasn't going to stretch to what I wanted, not if I wanted to be able to run a track all day without running repairs. Fortunately, I had a couple of friends who had shown some interest in this, so I suggested we go in to a car with a third share each. This would put the budget for the car up to about £2000 with another £1000 aside for track day modifications. A fruitless 6 months followed and I failed to find anything I would be willing to put money behind, mostly because I wanted something rear drive to widen my personal experience. I could have bought a saxo or pug for this money, even a well sorted track slag with trailer, but I had decided on rear drive, not for speed, but just for the experience. I still feel its important to buy the things you want, not necessarily the things that will be best at the job. So i had decided it had to be rear drive and light. But westfields and caterhams were starting about £4k, which left MR2s and MX5s as the target fodder. After some test drives, I found that MX5s just weren't fast enough to be interesting and MR2s in my price range were generally rust buckets or old smokers. But the budget was fixed and I almost settled on a particular well sorted MX5, until I realised i just wouldn't allow myself to be seen in public driving it. A bit harsh, but I just don't find the styling of the Mk2 mx5 remotely masculin, and the mk1 is not much better. So what to do? I had basically ruled out every car worth considering on price, performance or prejudice. So i went and drove a track prepared impreza. That set the benchmark for performance, and I almost had that car on the spot, but the owner was asking £500 more than I had and wouldn't budge. Then I gave up.
