Will Power claimed his second IndyCar pole position in succession with a dominant display in qualifying for tomorrow's race at Barber Motorsports Park. The Australian Penske driver was fastest in all three of his segments of qualifying and finished the Fast Six session half a second clear at the front. "It went pretty smoothly once I was able to save set of reds," said Power. "I've just got to execute in race. If we can win, let's win. If not, let's just get as many points as possible. It's going well for us, I just don't want to make any mistakes. "It's definitely better to be up the front here. It'll be tough to pass because some people will go off str…

Will Power's IndyCar domination showed no sign of abating as he topped Friday practice at Barber Motorsports Park. The Penske driver had led the way in the morning, and as the second session approached its halfway point Power re-established himself at the head of the order, usurping Andretti Autosport's Tony Kanaan. Having hit the front, Power went quicker and quicker until he was half a second clear of the field. Although his rivals later closed in, no one was able to depose the championship leader. Kanaan eventually returned to second, ahead of Penske's Helio Castroneves and Ganassi's Scott Dixon, with Marco Andretti fifth for Andretti Autosport. …

IndyCar points leader Will Power picked up where he left off in testing by going fastest in the opening practice session for the championship's first race at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama. Power, who won both the opening rounds of the season in Sao Paulo and St Petersburg and was also quickest in winter testing at Barber, led the way with a lap of 1m11.7886s approaching the final quarter of the session. His Penske team-mate Ryan Briscoe moved up to second shortly afterwards, with early pacesetter Justin Wilson ending up third for Dreyer & Reinbold. Ganassi's Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon took fourth and sixth, split by Marco Andretti (An…

Viso, Sato and Moraes Lead 3-Car Attack at Picturesque Barber Circuit BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The rolling hills of Alabama might be the last place you would find natives of Venezuela, Japan and Brazil. But IZOD IndyCar Series stars E.J. Viso, Takuma Sato and Mario Moraes come to the picturesque road racing landscape of Barber Motorsports Park this weekend (April 9-11) to battle in the inaugural Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. The three KV Racing Technology drivers aren’t “Good Ole’ Boys” that usually race down the street at the high banks of Talladega. The three international competitors will return to their rac…

We're not bold enough to try and rebuild Mount Rushmore, but in the same way that legendary, former US presidents, such as, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln have revolutionised the United States of America, Colin Chapman and Lotus have revolutionised IndyCar Racing with the pioneering Lotus Type 38, the race car that changed the face of Indy forever in 1965.* As you know, Lotus is back in IndyCar and at the 3rd round of the 2010 IZOD Indy Racing Series in Alabama, Lotus’ driver Takuma Sato is aiming for a racing "revolution" of his own. The Indy Grand Prix of Alabama presented by Legacy Credit Union takes place this weekend at Barber Motorsports Park…

Takuma Sato was disappointed to end a typically exciting IndyCar Series race on the streets of St Petersburg in Florida at quarter-distance. The Japanese ex-Formula 1 star was running comfortably in the top 10 for most of the first 25 laps until he unfortunately collected the tyre wall. On only his second weekend as an IndyCar driver with the KV Racing Technology team, Taku made big progress. During the second free practice session on Friday, he lapped seventh fastest, within 0.1 seconds of second position. "It was quite positive and things were going smoothly," he said. "St Pete was another new circuit for me, with a good mixture of low and high-spee…

Takuma Sato says he has learned a lot following his second outing in the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series. Takuma, who was competing in his first race in the #5 car's iconic green-and-yellow Lotus livery, started the Honda Grand Prix of St Petersburg, which was postponed until Monday due to rain, from eleventh. He then used all of his F1 experience to overcome the challenging track conditions to move up to eight by lap 21. However, at that point he was fighting to get into the fuel window when he ran into the tyre wall while defending his position. "I was disappointed not to finish today," Taku said. "I enjoyed the start of race. The conditions were very tri…

PETERSBURG, FL - - MARCH 29, 2010 - - Round #2 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series season - - KV Racing Technology had the highest of highs and the lowest of lows today in the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, which was postponed yesterday because of heavy rain, in St. Petersburg, Florida. E. J. Viso, #8 PDVSA – KV Racing Technology Honda/Dallara/Firestone, who was making his third appearance on the 1.8-mile, 14-turn St. Petersburg temporary street circuit, qualified a team-high ninth and drove an incredibly smart and strong race. Will Power took a second straight victory in the postponed second round of the IndyCar Series in St Petersburg, as Justin Wilson denied Penske a top three sweep by securing second for Dreyer & Reinbold. The incident packed race, which took place in dry conditions far removed from the storms that prevented any racing on Sunday, came down to a duel between Power and Wilson, with the leader's Penske team-mates Ryan Briscoe and Helio Castroneves close behind. But having topped every practice session and taken pole, Power had just enough speed to stay out of Wilson's reach and maintain his 100 per cent victory rate in 2010. The race was delayed slightly f…

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A weather system that moved across the Gulf of Mexicao and quickly dumped more than an inch of rain on the temporary street circuit and produced lightning forced postponement of the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg to 10 a.m. (ET) March 29. The race will be televised by ESPN2. The last time an IZOD IndyCar Series race was postponed to another day was kin September 2008 at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan (Danica Patrick won on the oval). Will Power, who set a circuit record of 1 minute, 1.4816 seconds in the second round of qualifications on the 1.8-mile, 14-turn course, will start from the pole. He will be joined on the front row by…

Takuma Sato's qualifying effort at the Honda Grand Prix of St Petersburg was hampered by a wheel gun malfunction, but the Japanese ace still managed the eleventh fastest time in the Firestone Fast Six shoot-out format. Sato, who will be competing in just his second IndyCar race and the first in the #5 car's iconic green-and-yellow Lotus livery, posted a time of 62.4205secs, but it wasn't enough to get him through to subsequent stages of the qualifying session, and will see him line up on the inside of row six at the Florida street circuit, having claimed seventh on the combined speed report after Friday's practice. However, his morning practice session s…
