Me and my father have just purchased a 2001 S2! Only done 45k miles but has been sat for 10 years so it'll need a pretty comprehensive restoration I'd imagine (car should be with us next weekend to have a good look). Aim is to have it running nicely and take it on a few track days each summer. It starts and engine turns over This is the first project car we've done too Can anyone help me sort a "to-do" list in a sensible order and let me know what I've missed? Full service inc cambelt Fuel line clean/replace? Brake service/change inc fluids Tyres Suspension refresh New battery + alternator This isn't done …

I've been mulling over getting a car lift for sometime, but have limited headroom of approx 2300mm. For easier maintenance, but also to get my 4 toys in garage (photo attached shows my 3 toys but not my VW camper van) Had more or less resigned myself to a 4 post due to the headroom restriction, but was concerned about how much space it would take up (I planned to install it in the middle bay). Yesterday I spoke with a nice guy from twinbusch who said: Only get a 4 post if you have plenty of space, otherwise get a 2 post. I said your shortest 2 post is 2320mm and I only have 2300mm. His reply, no problem we can take 100mm of the top of each post for an …

Hi. I'm considering buying a 2 post lift for my garage for 2 reasons. 1. So I can store 2 elise one on top of another 2. To make maintenance easier I know you are required to use points B and C, but my question is does anyone know if it is possible to use a 2 post lift without having to remove the rear under tray 1st ?

Hi all. looking to get a longtail hardtop for my S2 2002 elise standard K8 engine model. Any recommendations, plenty of cheap single skin from china which would probably fit my honda better. Wanted a decent model with good noise damping in it. Car is maroon but black is fine as that's what the soft top is. Also long or short tail. many thanks Kevin

Hi, My Lotus needs a new handbrake cable, a Lotus dealership placed one on back order in August and there is still no date for arrival. Does anyone know if there are alternatives that will do the same job? As at the moment my car is just stuck in storage until I get a new handbrake cable. Thanks, Luke

Over winter I have done a few jobs on the exige including a wheel refurb and suspension spruce up . On removing the rear drivers side wheel I discovered a lovely and quite thick smear of green / black grease on the inside of the wheel and suspension parts . It appears the cv boot is leaking although I can’t see any obvious split /tear or wear . Figured it would be prudent to replace both whilst I have the wheels off . Is this something folk have done at home ? . Any suggestions / part numbers for the correct items greatly appreciated, or is it something I should leave to the pro’s where an hours work for them is better spent than a day covered in grease and split boots f…

I know there's alot of these posts but I'm asking for more specific information. I'm going to upgrade the stereo to a Sony dsx-gs80 which has a built in amp and other nice features. I'm sure I'm going to need to have a line connected from the fused board or battery to the stereo for extra power. Don't want no electrical fires! Or does it need doing at all. I'm not going to be running a sub just speakers which will get upgraded in the future. Anyone recommend a place that can do this as I'm not electrical savvy at all and want it done right. Thanks. And hope everyone has a great Christmas!

Hi guys ... I have a really annoying leaking window. I have tried the tightening / loosening of the window but under heavy rain (I have been messing with this for months to no avail) the area highlighted in the photo gets totally sodden. Also the seatbelt then gets soaked and if its really bad the drivers seat Just looking at both windows and feeling around them, I cant see anything that appears massively different, the pressure to the seal seems good etc with no visible gaps. Anybody got any ideas to check or try? Thanks

Hello, I'm attempting to program a new key fob (transmitter). On my spare set of keys there is a tab with two 5 digit numbers. Not clear to me which one is supposed to be the sPecific Identification Number (PIN). The larger one or the smaller one?

Hi all, I took my Elise for an MOT last week and during the emissions test the coolant res burst, hence MOT failure. However, the inspector did say that the emissions were looking bad, and it would likely fail. I didn't have the knowledge at the time to ask what was looking bad with the emissions so i have no further info. oops! I replaced the coolant res and temperature sender, and also checked that the cooling fan works. so fairly happy with that side of things. The Cat and o2 sensor haven't been changed in 15 years at least, so i guessing it could be one,or both. These are the tests that i have done so far. Blocked up the tail pipes and checke…

My S1 elise started fine on Saturday in the garage. Took it out of garage on sat afternoon and put on drive as had an early start on Sunday. wouldn't start on Sunday morning, it had rained heavily durring the night. Ended up getting a tow from RAC to PJS who checked it out and advised that on the elise S1, the vents on the engine lid allow water to drop directly onto the leads, plugs and dizzy cap. Not that rare that after rain the series 1 can struggle to start. They have blown out and dried everything they could, have applied silicon grease in various areas and it starts every single time. They say next time you leave outside, try to protect from rain get…

On the way to the meet up this morning, the dash indicator light when turning right was going at twice the speed as to when turning left, and indeed right indicator was not working when checked at the meet up. Hoping it would be something simple like the bulb had just come loose, it turns out the right inner light (which is not the indicator) light bulb casing has snapped completely. I guess the rear inner and outer rear lights must be in series as there doesn't seem anything wrong with the indicator light itself. Time to start hunting on internet as just one rear light on eliseparts is £273 + VAT. Ouch

Hi So over a week now my car has been giving issues. Went into limp mode on the motorway and got to a services to be towed to a garage. Dan at HPE has been amazing and super helpful but he is struggling to see why the error codes seem to be changing and now the car is stuck in limp mode and we have gone from valve timing sensor error to throttle sensor error. Obviously can't go around changing all the sensors but the idea is, the ECU is the problem. Has anyone had this happen before or even more of a stretch is can I borrow a ECU as a test but that's a long shot. Currently I'm looking at going to a dealership.
