My standard Elise S1 has a sports exhaust. I've just bought the car and the dealer has given me the option of exchanging for a standard exhaust if I want, because at the time I said I preferred the look of a twin-pipe rather than the fitted upgrade which is a single oval. Now I've driven for a while, I've realised the exhaust is ******* loud. I'm not expecting normal car volumes, but my stereo is currently a waste of time apart from when I'm sat in traffic. Will a standard exhaust be much quieter anyway? What will I be losing out on if I remove the sports exhaust, apart from noise and about 2bhp (apparently)? Thoughts and opinions, please.

Everytime I depress the clutch pedal it sounds like I'm treading on a cat, the sqeak is getting worse, I've tried spraying WD40 but the sqeak always returns. Someone told me I may need a new bush?! Can anyone advise me if this will cure this irritation, and if leaving it will do any harm? Also is it something that can be replaced/corrected easily?

I am sure this question has been asked many times, but I haven't got the energy to dig through previous discussions.... so here goes. Horizon have quoted me £750 to fit S2 suspension to my S1 Elise, including Geometry set up. Despite the usual clatters, the car drives well. Is the change worth the money?

Hello all. I'm an Elise owner for just 3 days now, and am just a bit concerned that engine temp is running much lower than expected. I was expecting around 80 deg. c or more, but have maxed at only about 65-70 so far. I'm not really working the car hard yet, but have had a couple of 50mile+ runs so far at steady 3500 to 4000 rpm, and the temp will settle in low sixties. Not much change after short high revs bursts. Is this a problem? V. glad to be a Lotus owner by the way! Cheers

I know insurance has been done to death and I did a good search b4 posting. Does anyone know of or use multiple vehicle insurance? I am running three motors at the moment (greedy I know) but I can only use my no claims on 1, the other two are on classic policies. Moter traders insurance usually only covers one to drive anything rather than if it gets nicked etc... The Elise is on a classic policy with A Flux. I am about to run out of miles so am looking at a deal to sort all three so I can (if required) use them all year round. Sorry it's another boring insurance posting thanks Simon

...and I'm so flippin' tired now! Took me a good ten hours in total, most of which was spent trying to set the new Pioneer speakers in position - modifiying the speaker pods etc. Also took the seats out to do it which was quite a task Oh well, at least now I know how to do it! Put in a new Sony CDX-S2200 head unit which fits like a glove and looks pretty nice. Having been out for a spin I am very pleased with the sound quality even given the noisy nature of the car - I think a small sub would do wonders, but that's perhaps a mod for the future. Job's a good un

hi, i'm getting my elise s1 this evening that i'm buying off a friend. its just being serviced today and they phoned him to say that the coolant fan had seized, and that they wanted £450 to replace it! i found a local specialist who said he could get a second hand fan for me. he said he could fit it for between £200 and £300. the thing i am wondering is - how hard is it to get the front clam-shell and radiator off to get to the fan? i'm not bad mechanically, but haven't looked at it yet. any advice? cheers rich

OK heres the story Was ragging the car yesterday and pulled up at some lights where i noticed the temp reading was flashing at 120!!! the cooling fan was on and trying to cool and the temp did go down to about 115, the noise the engine makes hadn't changed either, i pulled over and turned the car off, I checked the coolant level which was Non-Existant (Coolant seems to need topping up very regularly!!), i also checked under the Oil cap for any signs of Mayonnaise but there was non...I left the car for about 5 mins, un did the coolant tank, and filled it with some more coolant (keep some spare in the boot), I started the car again and the temp steadied around 88 - 91, …
