Contacted Peter Smith in Derby for 'A'service quote on 12 month old Exige S2. £433 inc vat!! This seems extortionate for what I understand is basically an oil and filter change along with various checks. Does this seem about 'normal' to anoyone? Horizon have quoted £125 including use of official Lotus filters and recommended oil etc so I think they'll be getting the business as the warranty remains unaffected. Should have asked for labour rate and number of hours etc but was too stunned!

The elise is going to be due a 'C' service in a month or so..... Obviously everyone recommends Horizon but what are the other options? and what is the expected damage? Anyone used PTP in Hinckley for a 'c' service recently? PTP are much closer. Any others worth trying near leics? Cheers Rich Also what is the cure for the knocking rear suspension when hot? Am i right in thinking it is the toe links?

Hi Everyone I'm new to the Rover K series, but used to own a westfield which ran a megasquirt ECU with a zetec on a set of jenvey TBs, so am used to being 'in control' of what the engine management is doing. The car I'm collecting has the standard MEMS ecu, but is there any diagnostic ports for any kind of real-time info on what the engine is doing? I've been reading the lotus service manual for the S1 and it talks about the 'Lotus Check' scanning tool that sounds like what I need but I just wondered if anyone has come up with anything for the PC / pocket PC / palm etc? I seem to remember reading somewhere that the M100 elan has this... Ta Will

....am I correct in presuming this is one of those fancy plug in computer checks which balances all the fuel supply chips and circuits, emissions etc? ( It is mentioned as necessary on any type of service ) It is not just a pre-MOT emission test, is it? Reason I ask is because I am going to service my Elise myself, not just to save money but to make sure all things are done, oil filters primed and plugs gapped properly, for example. And the money saved does mean I can change the oil, plugs leads etc much, much more often. I've been burned once too often ( not by Lotus, this is my first ) to ever trust a dealer again. Haven't use one for 20 years. Apologies Lo…

Hi, My 07 Elise 'S' is coming upto 70k miles and I'd like to refresh the suspension. Does anyone have suggestions for the best bet on new bushes or kits for this ? Ideally I'd like to keep things close to standard as the original car rode very nicely, Cheers David

Obviously they are a keen dry 'racey' tyre but what are the Yoko's like to live with through wet, cold and harsh winters months? I'm considering a winter tyre set when purchasing a new Exige S, however I'd rather not waste the money if the Yoko's are 'fine' for normal/steady driving during wet spells etc.

Kind of like a muffled "duh, duh, duh, duh, duh....." that gets faster with road speed. I'm thinking wheel bearing? Either that or Rick Allen is locked in my boot !(one for the def leppard fans out there ) Your collective thoughts much appreciated. Dunc

Just to settle a discussion we had at Le Mans about towing an Elise. I had a conversation with Ian at Nick Whale yesterday. Lotus don't recommend towing the car not because of knackering the engine or box (it won't) but for the following reasons: 1. Front towing eye is designed for pulling the car onto low loaders or out of gravel. It's not strong enough for towing the car any distance. 2. Towing with the front wheels in the air isn't recommended either, as "some sort of damage to the clam or chassis is bound to happen" So there you go. Nothing to do with the engine or fluids in the box, rather the somewhat fragility of the structure.

On Sunday evening after a glorious and spirited drive back through the Welsh mountains the dash temp gauge began to fluctuate at 67/68 then jump back to 87/88 then drop to 79/80 and has continued to do this after an evening left on the drive to rest . A bit of googling suggests the blue thermostat / sensor may be shot and needs replacing . the car is a 99 S1 Elise and despite a reasonable search I can’t find a definitive guide to how to change this part . I am hopeful it can be quickly removed and a new one fitted without the need to drain down the whole system and hopefully will only need under trays and wheel arch liners out . Or am I dreaming ? as ever , any a…

If you park on a slope in gear, without the handbrake on, will that cause any extra stress on the engine/gearbox etc..?

FIXED FINALLY! - PRRT on Elise S2 111S with VVC engine and re-circulation pump plus factory oil cooler requires modification of the plumbing in order to get best performance and working heating! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Had a PRRT fitted last year, when I got my car back from the garage heater didn't work anymore. As it was a very hot summer never thought about it and then during the winter I figured I'd have a look and that i was the heater actuator. Actuator was actually working it turned out. During the same time fitted a new alloy rad as well. We had …

Hi, Had the MOT done today at a serious garage. The Car was OK but some issues appeared: Brake; Pads and discs to be replace Suspension; anti roll bar drop link to be replace Behind the liner of the passenger side rear arch, the aluminium box seems rub after contact with the wheel... impossible to see except if you remove the liner to replace the fuel filter... And as we talk about fuel.... the pipe that goes to the fuel filter (from the tank) is badly corroded... look at pictures: The garage didn't want to change the fuel filter now as they tought it could brake... they will take some time Friday to clean the rust a lubricate it.... Is it Norm…

All, I've been running with a CRP for years, but swapped the cat back in for the MOT in Feb. Things just aren't the same with the cat in place, so wanted to try the CRP again, especially as summer looms. So, rather than paying someone to do it, I though I'd give it a go myself. I've still got the CRP, but as a mechanical noob wanted to check what appeared to be a simple job... AFAIK, I can just unbolt the cat (have soaked the bolts in oil overnight and they're compliant) and swap in the CRP, but I had a few(!) questions : * I'm not mechanical - I used to swap out the bearings in the crank of my push bike, but that's the extent to my experiance, from 25 yea…
