Hello friends, its been a while. For those of you that don't frequent Seloc, i've got a little build thread going that you might like to have a nosey at so i'll cut and paste the contents here... After having to put this off for a couple of years I'm thrilled to be back at it now, for those that don't know I'm doing a DIY honda with a set of mounts fabricated up by an engineer local to me (he shares a unit with Clockwise and is converting his own elise). I've spent a lot of time over there chewing the fat and I was convinced enough to put my money where my mouth was and buy an engine and a kit of parts from him to convert the tidy 111s I've recently bought.…

I have a build thread on seloc but thought you guys would appreciate this Car is a CAT C 111S 47k miles that i bought with 95% of all the bits needed to get back on the road It was crashed in France, aquaplained onto a crash barrier taking the fron crash box clean off and damage to both clamshells but no chassis damage The original plan was to build a 350bhp k series engine, i used to have a 1.4 k in my rover 100 that was 292.8bhp and 250lbft but it was relatively laggy. The 1.8 is a fantatsic engine but once above 350bhp it starts getting issues mainly the liners and also very expensive cost was about £8k to do this properly Roverdose who built my 1.4 also build…

In fairness it hasn't for some time but its about to change big time from what you might have seen at Chatsworth. So as its quiet here and on exiges right now I thought I bung up a few pictures.... John from JSRacing popped over for the engine removal Seem to have run out of image uploading room!

And so the winter refresh of my S1 Elise started today. Hoping to take front clam of tomorrow. However of the 4 lower bolts that hold the lower rear to the chassis, 2 are spinning and 2 won't budge despite copious amounts of penetrative oil over the last few months. The Eagle eyed will spot my Dremel tool which I'm not looking forward to using to remove 4 bolt heads that have limited access. Currently on my list are replacing the driving lights brackets, shot blast and paint the tow post, new front badge, replace all fluids, replacing leaking drivers side transmission seal, shotblast and paint the wishbones Probably change the radiator to, and fix/replace whatev…

As I've already mentioned, my expansion bottle recently started to develop an oily tidemark. The coolant itself still looks decent, as does the oil. I had lost a small amount of coolant but when Brian did my cambelt over Easter we found that the water pump had developed a leak from the spindle. (We had fitted a new one on the last belt change, probably only done about 12K on it!). Not had any other symptoms and the temperature has been pretty normal. Whilst I'd be happy to drive it some more on the road I wasn't prepared to entertain doing a track day with it so I've decided to fix it sooner rather than later. I've also decided to have a go myself, with a supporting cast…

PRICES AT LAST Supply only.... One way adjustable ohlins for the s1 or s2 elise is £950 + vat = £1116 S1 owners also require a rear bracket at £22 + vat = £25.85. Fitting is £176 + vat = £206.8 This includes a full geometry set up. So an s1 supply and fit comes out at £1349. An s2 would be £1323. As the regular supply only cost from ohlins is £1350 i think this deal represents good value. To take part in the group buy, Horizon have asked for a deposit of £500 per person interested. They need to order the shocks in blocks of at least 5 to get this price. If not enough people are interested, then of course the deposits wi…

My car is a more-or-less standard, 120 bhp K series s2 Elise. It has done 95000 miles and is my daily driver. It will probably remain so for another year at least, and I usually do 60 miles a day in it, most of which are not what you would call 'sporting' (roundabouts aside). I also do the odd Sunday morning hoon and perhaps 3 or 4 trackdays a year. The car has developed a rather disconcerting 'shimmy' over rough surfaces and potholes especially. It seems to be a problem with the rear of the car, especially the off side. It is also rattly and crashy and seems to break traction much easier. It's horrible basically. I think it is probably a case of worn damper…

As most of you know I managed to kill my S1 Elise at Blyton park just over a month ago. Well I've sourced a new engine from Maidstone sports cars. New engine specs: 160 VVC spec engine Quaife LSD 52mm TB 4branch exhaust Ported head Running uprated VVC cams (being removed) While the engines out I plan on cleaning the bay up and replace some shoddy wiring. I also have one or two other mods planned while rebuilding. Started the dismantling on Saturday Managed to get the clam off (first time is done it) little awkward on your own but not impossible, also labeled up all the wiring. Alternator feed has seen better days: What is this? And this …

Inspired by Martin's refresh guides I thought it was time mine had a bit of tlc in that department. I'm taking plenty of photos as I go so I can remember where everything came from. I think Martin's guides pretty much cover everything but I thought I'd post one or two photos that might be of interest. Suspension off:- I'm fitting new balljoints, OE bushes and anti roll bar rubbers. To remove the anti roll bar, once the arch liners are out, there's an aluminium plate rivetted to the crash structure that also has to be removed by drilling out the rivets:- The top front wishbones have a number of washers fitted with them to adjust the caster angle so you nee…

Following on from this post:- http://www.midlandsl...00-hgf-diy-kr1/ and the porting I had done last year by Roger Fabry, a.k.a. kiwirog at Sabre Heads I have now decided to put phase 2 into operation, quite literally. Last year I opted for Roger’s KR1 upgrade, which modifies a standard non-vvc ‘K’ series head with 2mm larger dia. inlet valves and a load of porting work. The car still maintained its driveability and now revs so much more freely since having it done but, at the back of my mind I always knew I would one day put some different cams in too. That day has now arrived. The other week I went back over to Wisbech to see Roger and picked up some of his Newman Phas…

As its the winter and the little blue bomber is going sprinting next year ive decided on a suspension refresh. Ive bought some Superflex bushes and a set of ball joints. With the fixings etc it should work out at about £400 for the lot. If anyone needs any fixings BTW PM me before you buy and if i have them you can have them at what it cost me. Im also shotblasting the wishbones and replating at the same time as im a fussy so and so at the best of times. Pics to follow when ive cleaned a bit of blood of my knuckles. P.S. Liz is knitting for the impending Grand daughter so we will both be busy this winter
