As some of you may know I'm changing my daily car (Punto Sporting) October/November time for something more fitting for a lady of my status . I've more or less decided on a Honda S2000 but a small part of me still thinks it is tooooo understated. I keep hovering around the Porsche boards on Pistonheads looking at late 80s 911s but would this be suicide as: it must be reliable needs to do 80 miles a day all weather I leave early enough to sit at *ahem* 90 mph all the way to work on the M1 which suits me fine I have a budget of £20k for trade (so hoping to spend about £19k). I've never looked at a Porsche before so I could never tell a good one from a bad.…

Misjudged a right turn junction and must have caught the rear offside wheel. At the time it seemed like a mighty wack, but I can't see any marks on the alloy. Having had my geo done 3 months ago, I would prefer not to spend another £100 on checking it. But with my Trackday booked, I would have peace of mind knowing I hadn't buggered it up. I presume their is no other way to check and it is probally out???? It seems like this is an expensive mistake I have made....

I posted a while ago (http://www.midlandslotus.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=1328) that I felt a bit cheated about a red letter day, so went to Thruxton and booked direct through them. We did it on Friday and can honastly say it was excellent! Claire did the driving (couldn't afford 2 of us doing it), and I had some passenger laps inbetween acting as official photographer. First was a breifing which confused most people in the room 'apex-what?', but was fairly informative. Next an instructor took her round in some MG (Rover 400) type thing, with Claire driving it next. This was followed by some laps in an SLK. Then the fun started. 4 laps in a 360 …

Had my geo done.. and whatever they did its amazing now.. certainly has more camber on it, but long sweeping bends can be taken much faster now... Haven't had a proper road to test it on yet, but wow, i'm well chuffed. They also fixed my leaking inlet manifold gasket... so leak gone Random aside, they are also now PTP dealers/stockists.... so engine upgrades, ITG, Janspeed ahoy! I could spend a lot there now... eek!

I went for a spin today in Steve Butt's Elise...whoaaa, it is one fast motherf***er! The sound at 8750rpm with the straight through pipe was incredible, like a full on race car. The 6 speed CR box is amazing, it got up to 100mph in what seemed like the blink of an eye (he said in 9 secs which makes it faster than most supercars). It was running on 340R wheels with Advans and looked the biz. It was dyno'd last week at 210bhp. I still havent recovered from the experience. My S1 seemed very tame on the way home. BTW, anyone seen the new Top Gear mag, interesting timed track test with every Elise variant ever made. New Exige got the vote.

So here's the problem - I love my S1 which I've had for two years but it's got to stage where I'm thinking about modding - nitrons, DVA etc. Do I go over to the dark side and buy a S2 111R? Appreciate its a better car in some respects and would like the engine and gearbox, but aesthetics wise prefers the lines of the classic S1 and stripped out nature... Honda conversion not really an option as there is no way i could sell such mod to SO Any S1 - S2 111R owners persuade me? John

ok.... there i was mid winter thinking i'd done my stint in the S1 and now it was time to move on to something sensible....... everyone was saying it was wrong and that i would return, and still i did the deed and got a sensible car to replace the s1 thinking that i wouldnt miss the elise...... hey how could i miss the elise when i had heated leather recaro's, a 6 speed box, 6 cd changer and climate control...... well, here i am cap in hand.... i seem to have found myself stumbling upon the elises section in the classifieds on pistonheads a little too often and am thinking my return is inevitable, although i cant quite decide in what form...... am thinking s1 111s…
