  1. Many thanks . Temp was flicking between 69/70 as a constant for last 5 miles of journey, then jumped up and down at usual temp , then back to the flicking quickly between 69/70 . will start with the thermostat and hope it’s a simple fix , not sure what the earth strap looks like, so will have a google . Car had just been into Oakmere lotus for new toelinks , could they have disturbed a strap ???
  2. On Sunday evening after a glorious and spirited drive back through the Welsh mountains the dash temp gauge began to fluctuate at 67/68 then jump back to 87/88 then drop to 79/80 and has continued to do this after an evening left on the drive to rest . A bit of googling suggests the blue thermostat / sensor may be shot and needs replacing . the car is a 99 S1 Elise and despite a reasonable search I can’t find a definitive guide to how to change this part . I am hopeful it can be quickly removed and a new one fitted without the need to drain down the whole system and hopefully will only need under trays and wheel arch liners out . Or am I dreaming ? as ever , any advice gratefully received Richard / Ethan
  3. Interesting post on s1 Facebook page from Julian himself work a look too
  4. I don’t normally read Autocar as it seems to need more content that the car world can create , so just makes stuff up to fill space , a little like the BBC , but we won’t go there today !! but I did spot this image of a Julian Thompson , Callum design company imagined new all elective Elise , that has been created to house the batteries for a UK start up firm hoping to make lightweight powerful batteries with 155 mile range that can charge in 6 minutes . what do you guys think ? I don’t dislike the design , but looks heavy and hunkered down rather than light and on its toes , but I guess what ever happens the new Elise will be heavier , so might as well embrace it rather than try to hide it ?
  5. Sooooooo. Bit of an update on the tyres and all things Exige . new tillet seats fitted , new TRS harnesses installed , new brake pads all around and off my car finally went to my local trusted garage for its MOT on Thursday . Passed with no advisories and the embarrassing total of 930 miles to go along with the 453 and 780 from the previous 2 MOTS . So armed with some new driving road suggestions, a weekend of sunshine in North Wales and a willing Co pilot I managed to rack up nearly 430 miles over 3 days on some amazing tarmac ( mostly !) the new seats are super comfy , although I will make some thin pads for the base and side bolsters for less slippage and to reduce potential scratches to that lovely carbon fibre. The TRS harnesses are 4 point -3” wide FIA approved and feel so much more sturdy than my old Sabelts but easy to adjust and unclip . the new mintex pads are very progressive and more than able to stop the car time and time again on the road , more than adequate for my level of skill and commitment . and finally the tyres . I was expecting a huge difference from my R888’s . The weather was good with hot dry roads. The feel through the wheel is a little softer, but still full of feedback , they seems to tram line a little less. Grip is mighty , much stronger than I expected , turn in wasn’t affected at all ( I was realistically driving at 8/10th as it was 1st run of the year on unknown roads and scrubbing in tyres and pads ) and when you really push the rear they let go of traction a little earlier but much more smoothly than the 888, which either gripped real hard or didn’t at all , and you needed to be quick if lucky to catch them . For my driving style and skill they are a definite improvement on the road for me , track time might be different , but overall I am a happy chappy . the roads were awesome . Llanberis -betws y coed -Ffestiniog - Bala- lake Vernwy- Barmouth - Dolgethleu - Bedgelert
  6. Hi Bill , sorry for the slow reply , yes managed to pick up a set of 6 from on line supplier so I have a few spares for next disc change . thanks for the offer Richard
  7. Yup , checked my S1 and they are studs not bolts and tbh don’t think they achieve much as the bolts hold everything together when the wheel is on. Don’t think I can delete on the grounds of weight saving , but figured I should put some back in if I have taken them out ! thx for the sizes 👍🏻
  8. Hi folks . Just doing little ferrying jobs on the exige whilst I wait my new harnesses touching down so I can actually drive the thing . despite being relatively new and not rusted in place the rear retaining screws on my discs appear to have developed a cheese like consistency and I have had to remove with larger torx fitting . Does anyone know what size the bolts are and if an off the shelf euro car parts item will suffice as I can’t bring myself to pay the 8.34 postal charge for a £4 item from the usual lotus suppliers ? or if anyone has 2 spare they could pop in the post in exchange for a beer at LITP or similar meat that would be awesome cheers rich
  9. A little more encouragement and an overnight soaking of WD did the trick on the wheel. just the harness bar to sort now . If anyone could share an image of original belts still in situ, I assume on top of the bar fixing that would be awesome . Not sure if I should consider longer bolts , but they appear to have a decent amount of thread into the roll bar ?
  10. Evening all . Bad weather has stopped us driving , but not tinkering . Decided to fit a harness bar to the S1 and the momo slightly smaller wheel we purchased at the end of last season . harness bar - does anyone have a pic , close up ideally of how the bar(eliseparts item) sits in the car once bolted in , has anyone retained the seatbelts alongside a set of harnesses ? steering wheel -how the the good f#%%#. Do you get the original off . Removed the nut and fixing washer so the threaded spline is visible and the metal collar that appears to sit behind it , but no amount of persuasion with hands , mallets , and a home made puller is havivg any effect other than bending the original steering wheels inner frame ., cheers richard and Ethan
  11. Set them to 30 rear 28 fronts fit now . Figure they won’t be getting too warm in the spring weather so starting there and working on it from there
  12. Jury is out till I have driven it , but here are the new tyres, wheel refurb and centre caps
  13. Pictures to follow , but wheels are back , tyres are fitted and balanced ( including black weights to blend into the background ) and centre caps prepped and ready for fitting today when they arrive . have to say I am a little nervous of my choice as the tyres look very “normal “ , like something off my wife’s Volvo daily . Let’s hope the compound gives me as much grip and feel as the 888’s minus about 15% , not 50% . on another note , popped into Oakmere to collect new handbrake cable from the ever helpful Paul , and spied the below on the car park . Anyone on here ??
  14. Yes , I have gone gold black but look similar . Did you have to remove the old insert ? And if so how did you do it , was thinking of drilling through back and pushing it out ??
  15. Arrived safe and sound today , and off to the fitters to be put onto the newly powder coated wheels …. Considering popping some black / gold wheel centres in just for a change , as my old green / yellows have see better days . Had a couple of bits before from Dan at Divine handicraft and pleased with the quality and service , and tbh can’t bring myself to spend £35 a wheel on new lotus ones when all I want to do is replace the centres . Anyone done this successfully ?
