  1. One additional thought. Even though our cars are quite simple with “Metro” or “Corolla” parts and experts like Gavin can be trusted, I would not let any normal garage or tyre place touch my car. Even lifting one up is asking for trouble if the person doing it has no idea what they are doing. Also, as many of our cars do silly low mileages, you do have to wonder what needs doing every year.
  2. It was not on track, on road. I think the problem is an Aston, McLaren or even a Range Rover 😵‍💫 has much more family appeal.
  3. I was a member, good cause. I went to one event offering dream rides at Donington. Fair to say the general public has no interest in an S1 Exige. I only gave rides to other sporting bears!
  4. I can do all of my own work but get Gavin to service my Exige, he can do stuff in minutes that tries me (like aligning the bonnet). I started with Gavin thinking about resale but as my son has demanded it’s his inheritance I should do it myself, but the garage floor is cold and I’m getting old. Basic stuff like oil, plugs, filters, pads, fluids are easy. Given the low miles these cars do you have to be curious if some garages do the work they charge for. I’m 100pc confident in Gavin but not the franchise dealerfor my main car, so he does that as well.

I’ve had a head gasket fail in an s1. However, it’s not the end of the world as most garages have changed 100s of Rover head gaskets. Bottom end is strong. Gearbox is the big plus for me with the S1.

I’ve had both. My view is the k series is a good engine but is fragile, Toyota needs a super charger as it has no grunt but it is reliable. Hard hat on. The Toyota gearbox is not good, baulks when pushed on fast trail braked changes. Honda box in k series is much better.
  7. I’ve run AO48 and R888 on road and really cannot recommend them. Having been lifted in the outside lane, beside a truck, by a puddle, was very scary. I use v105 which you can’t get, I’m impressed with them on my S1 Exige on road and track. I have PS4 (not 3) on my GT86 and they are not a track tyre, get very melted but have excellent wet grip on track. I would be positive about the Michelins but not tried them on a Lotus.
  8. I’ve stayed on the Chatsworth estate a few times, even though I only live 25 miles away. Everything they have is wonderful, great discounts. I’d book one but I have to do an airport run.
  9. I’ve only done the short circuit (cones everywhere) and two laps of the full circuit so I did not try it in anger. It may be much better than I experienced! It did not create a great impression for me.
  10. Like, Ray is correct, Blyton is very safe but I hate the place. Corners can be confusing (to me) as there are lots of cones, lines and bits and bobs. Probably my poor spatial memory. Much safer than Cadwell.
  11. Hope it’s nothing too serious and you get to Ltip. Sun was blinding at the close so I left before missing the corner at Redgate!
  12. Luke, as you are new to this, Cadwell may not be a great place for your start. It’s a very fast circuit, narrow and tricky. In a Caterham it’s hard to avoid getting airborne, in places there is no run off. Bedford, Donington, Anglesey are safer bets, in that order.
  13. Wishbones can and look bad. I’d check the mounting points for impact damage but not be too worried. Spray on some Dynax rust treatment to make sure it does not get worse. Repeat each time you tinker with the car and have the wheels off. You will be amazed at how good it looks once the Dynax has done its stuff.
  14. I have been setting 23f 26r cold. I have only used them on track once so I expect they went well over 30. I think I’ll target 23/26 hot and see how that goes. Ray, car is a bit under 900kg without a lump in the driver’s seat. I’d guess that’s less than your Elise but also much less powerful than your Elise.
  15. Any views on pressures on v105s? I have them on my S1 Exige. Andrew Walsh always said that you should be scrubbing tyres on the shoulders over to the little triangle moulded into the sidewall. I have tried hard but get nowhere near. I’m just running the same pressures as I used to in AO48s.
