I’ve had a head gasket fail in an s1. However, it’s not the end of the world as most garages have changed 100s of Rover head gaskets. Bottom end is strong. Gearbox is the big plus for me with the S1.

I’ve had both. My view is the k series is a good engine but is fragile, Toyota needs a super charger as it has no grunt but it is reliable. Hard hat on. The Toyota gearbox is not good, baulks when pushed on fast trail braked changes. Honda box in k series is much better.
  3. I’ve run AO48 and R888 on road and really cannot recommend them. Having been lifted in the outside lane, beside a truck, by a puddle, was very scary. I use v105 which you can’t get, I’m impressed with them on my S1 Exige on road and track. I have PS4 (not 3) on my GT86 and they are not a track tyre, get very melted but have excellent wet grip on track. I would be positive about the Michelins but not tried them on a Lotus.
  4. I’ve stayed on the Chatsworth estate a few times, even though I only live 25 miles away. Everything they have is wonderful, great discounts. I’d book one but I have to do an airport run.
  5. I’ve only done the short circuit (cones everywhere) and two laps of the full circuit so I did not try it in anger. It may be much better than I experienced! It did not create a great impression for me.
  6. Like, Ray is correct, Blyton is very safe but I hate the place. Corners can be confusing (to me) as there are lots of cones, lines and bits and bobs. Probably my poor spatial memory. Much safer than Cadwell.
  7. Hope it’s nothing too serious and you get to Ltip. Sun was blinding at the close so I left before missing the corner at Redgate!
  8. Luke, as you are new to this, Cadwell may not be a great place for your start. It’s a very fast circuit, narrow and tricky. In a Caterham it’s hard to avoid getting airborne, in places there is no run off. Bedford, Donington, Anglesey are safer bets, in that order.
  9. Wishbones can and look bad. I’d check the mounting points for impact damage but not be too worried. Spray on some Dynax rust treatment to make sure it does not get worse. Repeat each time you tinker with the car and have the wheels off. You will be amazed at how good it looks once the Dynax has done its stuff.
  10. First, be very careful. Leave the nut on so when the wheel comes off it does not smack you in the face, just loosen it a few turns. Second, in driving seat, knees pushing from underneath, arms pulling from above, pull hard. It will come off! oh, a puller will just crush the crash structure, so don’t use one.
  11. I have been setting 23f 26r cold. I have only used them on track once so I expect they went well over 30. I think I’ll target 23/26 hot and see how that goes. Ray, car is a bit under 900kg without a lump in the driver’s seat. I’d guess that’s less than your Elise but also much less powerful than your Elise.
  12. Any views on pressures on v105s? I have them on my S1 Exige. Andrew Walsh always said that you should be scrubbing tyres on the shoulders over to the little triangle moulded into the sidewall. I have tried hard but get nowhere near. I’m just running the same pressures as I used to in AO48s.

This car is in fantastic condition and makes a great road, track day or race car. Currently in Roadsport spec but can be tuned to R310 of slowed to Academy spec. I had it for 4 years, sold it, bought it back 6 months later but need to sell it on. It has a hood, heated screen, doors, spare wheel, never crashed. Offering it here before PH. It’s by far the cheapest Ti-vct engine. 2014. More pictures soon.

I know the market is slow but I thought I'd try this. I have and S1 and an S2 Exige and one of them has to go to make space for a Caterham in the garage. The S2 will be off to a dealer in a few weeks but I really like them both so I'm torn about which to keep. You probably know all about S1 Exiges but to me there a few things that are must haves when buying one. 1. The engine must be running smoothly and like clockwork, they are simple but diagnostics can be painful. This one runs splendidly, pulls 30mph in 4th, no kangaroos or other oddities. It was not like that until I fitted verniers, a new lambda probe and spark plug leads. It's now a total pussy cat but has the fantastic VHPD sound. 2. It must have all the good options. Sports seats, harnesses (I have belts as well), 190 upgrade, carbon airbox, aircon. They aircon does not work (none do) but the extra vents are a big improvement on the standard Elise. 3. It needs to be bright - they are small and fast projectiles on the road, better to be seen and look good. 4. It needs to be original - is still a VHPD (I have a spare engine which can be available separately), it's running Nitrons but I have the originals. It has never been resprayed or had panels replaced. It does have some stone chips and a couple of star crazes. I would not dream of repainting it. 5. It needs to be a car you can use - it drives smoothly, starts hot or cold, passes the MoT, gleams fantastically but is not a garage queen, you can use it without worry, but it does draw crowds. Sadly, I have only been using it for Lotus in the Peak and charity dream rides for children. I've set a price 2k less than a dealer offered me last year, reflecting the slow market for everything (not just Lotus cars). Ping me for more information or any questions.

I have two Exige indoor fleecy car covers that fit an S1 or S2 Exige, they would also fit an Elise with a spoiler of Exige size. Both are in excellent condition, one has the original Lotus bag, the other has a cotton bag. These are the ones from Lotus, black with white piping along the side joins and “lotus” sewn into to front with white thread. Understated and classy! They have only been used in my clean dry garage to protect my cars when I used it as a gym. I’m away at the moment so I’m putting them on mloc as I don’t have pictures to hand. Trying a local sale before Seloc. Looking at pricing on Seloc there is the same cover for a 2-11 at £265 so I’m asking £200 plus postage for the Exige ones. Collection is possible from just north of Derby and I’ll be at Donington for the two Bookatrack days in August. Thanks Keith
