Zebedee79 Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 I'm thinking of changing my 111r for an S2 Exige and wonder how vital S2 Exige owners consider the factory a/c unit is? I don't have the A/C unit in the 111R and in over four years of Elise ownership have only really wished I had A/C at Le Mans last year. Appreciate that not having A/C will affect future resale but this will be factored into the deal. Is the A/C unit really that effective, my std. heater / cooling system is fairly rubbish, and I am aware of 111r owners with problems with the perfomance of the a/c unit. Reason for asking is that I am interested in a couple of S2 Exiges and one of them is without A/C but has the rare performance pack with seats / harnesses etc. Apparently something like 85-90% of S2 Exiges have the touring pack and much of that doesn't float my boat, albeit a good pack for resale. Thanks John
JohnnyM Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 AC in my s2 exige was superb..... same as in my current 111r. kept me cool throughout last summer...
Snapper Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 It's a must in an Exige in the summer and was superb last year while Euro touring. Wouldn't have an Exige without it
Zebedee79 Posted May 25, 2006 Author Posted May 25, 2006 Thanks for the comments so far , 2 votes for unaminously.
JohnnyM Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 your welcome to come and sit in mine with the AC on for 15 mins and see what you think

Thanks John I have made the change from an Elise without AC (never needed it) to an Exige with AC and I would not be without it.
chris_h Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I have the performance pack and aircon. In my mind its a must to have aircon. Chris
PPPMAT Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 In any temperatures above 18 degrees I'd say you really must have it on- it gets quite hot in the cabin when the engine warms up. I wouldn't buy one without it
Reg Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 We've not got it, and don't need it. Always seems to rain when we go out! And it adds weight! Mind you, neither me nor Elaine carry that much insulation. The Exige certainly doesn't get anywhere near as hot as the Scamp (read the gear knob gets too hot to touch)!
yoohoo Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 dont have it and dont need it! Britain is hardly a tropical country At the end of the day it saves weight and also doesnt sap power. If its that hot i just open the window
Snapper Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I take it you have never in in the Exige on a roasting hot summers day then stuck in traffic
Elaine Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I take it you have never in in the Exige on a roasting hot summers day then stuck in traffic Yep, but I can't say it's that bad.
Snapper Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Very uncomfortable in the south of France in 40 degrees heat. I had forgotten all about it, untill my partners said hasn't this car got air con. I had never had it on a sports car before so it had slipped my mind. Realy glad I had it then Not only good in the heat, but it also clears the windows far quicker on cold, damp winters days. So I would go for it
Zebedee79 Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 Thanks again for the comments, really going to have sit in one and try the aircon. Given the weather so far this year, epecially in Derbyshire, difficult to comprehend whether it will be unbearably hot. I too don't have much insulation and am quite tolerant of heat, howver such heat torture may put SO off it for life..... now there's a thought
Snapper Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I notice that you are in Birmingham and Matlock from your location. You are welcome to come and have a look around my Exige as I am close to the city centre. drop me a u2u
