baza4k
Hi All I have developed a rattle in my elise while driving. Under breaking it stops. The rattle would seem to be coming from behind the stereo, or in that general direction. I have had a look in the accessible areas in the cabin and from under the front clam and can't find anything loose. I have also checked the break callipers etc and they are solid. Any ideas? dobbo
Does it go even under really light pressure on the brake pedal ? If so, almost certainly the pads rattling. Noises travel round the Elise chassis very easily and are very hard to pin-point sometimes.
DeanB
My pads rattled terribly until Gav put some buffers in.
Meister
I had this recently - terrible rattle which I could have sworn was coming from behind the dashboard! I have had pad rattle before on previous Lotus so can confirm the sound travels around differently every time. As with Dean got Gav Unit4 to fit anti squeal buffers and coat with a good smattering of copper slip. Mark
baza4k
Hi All Thanks for the information. If I touch lightly on the brakes then the problem goes away. I will get some buffers and hopefully cure the rattle! Many thanks
fentuz
I tried these caliper pads several years ago and they aren't a long term fix. Went to topgear ago 8 years ago and talk to Martin. He advised 2 things either : 1 put some of these 3M strikingbuffer pads (similar to what mintex used to supply) on the metal back plate of the pad. When applying the brakes, the caliper pot will form a groove if the buffer pad and create a location stopping the pad rattle. Or 2 put some copper greace on the pad metal back plate, it 'sticks' to the caliper pot. I've done that for many years (40kmiles at least, countless trackdays and several sprints and few races) and it works.
