robinchild
Afternoon all, Has anyone had any experience regarding reliability of the supercharged k20 conversions, (jackson racing) lots of people seem to do it but I still find it hard to believe that you can do it to that high compression engine with standard internals. My engine has had new bearing shells, rings etc so is in good order to take the extra power. Rob

robinchild
If it works it works, I haven't really heard of any issues except for with the supercharger nose, how many miles have you put on yours? planning on doing mine towards the end of the year. Dr H
Guys in Oz race cars with JRSC engines with standard internals and they don't seem to have reported any major issues. Obviously it will depend on the ultimate power output and how you use it but they do seem to be pretty tough.

Matt C
Hi Rob. Only real downside of the JRSC is the heat and noise they produce due to the speed they run at on the K20a. Another option you may want to consider is a larger M90 unit or TVS1320 which pumps more air, hence can spin it slower, therefore quieter and not so hot. Steve J
Either way you need to brace the charger unit otherwise they break the manifold bolts they're secured with and cracked the manifold.
robinchild
Thank you all for the advice, I will look into it a bit more. defiantly the way to go I think, with the extra power, and it pains me to say it, I can get away with adding a bit of extra weight in the form of some sound proofing! Dr H
You don't need any extra sound proofing. The SC whine is loudish but not intrusive. In fact it becomes addictive TBH
Steve J
My eldest daughter hates the noise of the induction and supercharger. It is loud. Cotton wool in your ears is cheaper and lighter than soundproofing. Would be the Chapman way

robinchild
yes the sound proofing is for the engine noise! I love the sound the supercharger makes, MSC'S Race driver took me out for a demo in a supercharged k20 exige and I really liked it. I have to say, that was one fast car! I think my exhaust is a part of the problem, it has a very small silencer box, it does sound really angry! As for the weight, I would add 10kg at the most, my car weighed 720kg before the conversion and i would guess about 760kg now so it would still be really light. Has anyone actually corner weighted there k20 elise? MSC quote an increase of 15kg but I would be very surprised if thats all it added?
r339xjw
I corner weighted mine before sc but when I put sc in also added new induction and air/air oil cooler and pipe work etc and oil take off etc
Dr H
My 2001 Elise (former k-series) with a Honda SC was corner weighted at 816kgs including stuff in the boot which I weighed at 4kg. So it was 812kg with about 14 litres of fuel. Since then it had the CC added which must add about 10kg overall I reckon.
