Stereo Turns Off When The Car Moves

Ok, so this has got me baffled. I have had some electrical gremlins of late on my k series S2 Elise, but I've traced those back to a dodgy alternator. But, I swapped my old stereo, a blaupunkt, for a newer Sony with Bluetooth, etc. Since I've done that, the Sony turns off as soon as the car moves, but stays on just fine while stationary with the ignition on. It's also decided that it won't stay on as long as the key is in anymore, it turns off as soon as the ignition is turned off, I.e it doesn't work in the accessory position, only with the ignition full on. It turns off a few seconds after you turn the ignition off and there's an audible click, as though a relay has switched at the same time.

Any ideas what has happened? It's driving me crazy.

I don't know how to explain it, but it's like it's designed behaviour. It's not a dodgy connection because it does no come on while driving ever unless the car is stationary. I think I need to double check the wiring, it's like I've accidentally connected the switched feed to a speed pulse input. Got to be something funky going on.

That's an impressive thing to do !

I've done 3 head unit swaps in 3 different Elise/Exiges. Without exception it was as simple as unplugging the ISO adapter from the factory unit, and plugging it in to the new unit.

As for the other comments about not being able to hear the radio, there is an easy solution.

These are almost custom sized to the S2 footwell space above the passenger foot brace :)

With this installed you can switch on the HPF feature in most head units, which takes all the bass handling duties away from the factory speakers and puts it on the sub. So whilst yes you get a bit more bass, it's not going to rattle your windows out (not what I was looking to do), but allows the other speakers to work much more efficiently.

Having blown my factory speakers prior to the sub install (trying to listen to music, whilst wearing ear plugs, and driving at 150 roof down on the Autobahn, which is a little unfair blush.png ),  I also chucked in a pair of JBL GTO's up front, but left the stock grilles.

I appreciate some of the lightweight brigade will be after me with pitchforks for my heresy, but if it's predominately a road car a small weight penalty for a huge difference to the sound quality was worth it for me. Besides I shaved some weight from the factory head unit by going to a CD less unit, so I'm not all bad laugh.png
