Has anyone done the Car Limits day at Blyton Park??

I'm thinking about the August date, wondered if it would be as good as the North Weald day they do...

Thanks....

You should also consider Don Palmer at Bruntingthorpe, which is closer still. I have done both and for me Don was better. Main reasons, much closer, Don gives a BIT more understanding of the physics of what is going on, his track is more varied and the surface does less damage than North Weald. Andrew W is a god of a driver, had a foot and arm bandaged up when I did my session (beer and fire were involved) and could out drive any of us with one arm and one leg!

Don is a bit odd, Andrew is a lad (who my 6 year old at the time worshiped as a driving star).

Both good. Do not forget CAT driver training at Millbrook either. The best facilities by far, great instruction.

I have done them all, still not very fast!

Thanks chaps, a bit of food for thought..

I quite like the look of the don Palmer car control at bruntingthorpe.... Either would be beneficial I'm sure.....

Yes I have, and I enjoyed it just as much as North Weald.  The advantage of doing the training at Blyton is that you really get to know and enjoy the track pretty much to yourself, which is a great confidence builder if you plan to go back there for future track days.

For those really interested in improving their driving I would also recommend reading Speed Secrets by Ross Bentley. It is well written, clear and concise and explains the basic physics involved and also how tyres work very well.

I have read parts of it over and over again so the theory is very clear in my mind - that in turn makes putting the theory in to practice at track days much easier and much more effective.

Did a Don Palmer day today at Bruntisthorpe. Certainly was a good session and a fantastic pub lunch. Masses of airfield to play with with wriggles, high speed lane changes etc. Never managed the high speed sweeper at 120mph as Don did, got well over 100 in the end. Scares me when you slide at those speeds! Don works for me as he can explain some of the physics of what is going on.

It was mega as each lap was longer than some of the tracks I drive, certainly longer than Donington and we had it all to ourselves. Tyres look a bit sad but I fitted sacrificial tr-1s knowing we would do the "steering on under steer trick", which we did.

£450 for your own "track" and 1-2-1 instruction is good in my books.

As always, the brakes off Jonny Fox's old car impressed no end.

As has been said, the Blyton day is ace, but Walshy's own recommendation is to do an airfield Car Limits day before doing a Blyton Car Limits day - there is nowhere where in Blyton where you can do a 90 degree bend at 80+ mph, totally loose control, and not have the risk of hitting something. The 90 degree, high speed bend is what the airfield day is about.

If we got enough people together, Im pretty sure Walshy will do a Car Limits day at a venue of your choice, i.e. some vast expanse of tarmac. Caterham do their drift days at Donnington's Tarmac Lake, so I suspect it will be such a suitable venue, though Ive not seen it myself.
