Martin R
The tappet filling with oil removes the gap. There is a plunger in the middle that elongates as long as its getting oil. A ball bearing seals it and acts like a non return valve.
russelld
Thomas I may be mistaken but did you mention that when the engine is cold there is no noise ?
Thomas Harborne
Right okay, next time i get chance ill strip it back down. But yes Russel, start the car she sounds smooth, after 10 mins she starts knocking/tapping
russelld
I can't understand why this should be with noisy tappets, if there is air instead of oil in the tappets they would rattle from cold. I do hope it is nothing more serious but worn crank/big end bearings can be quiet on start up and develop a knock when warm. I hope I'm wrong !! Alex B
Does the knock remain the same when revved or does it increase in severity ?
Thomas Harborne
The knock/tap whatever it is thats happening seems to be overwhelmed by engine and exhaust noise. So can't really answer that question. Have phoned anither garage close to me. No one seems interested lol, the scrap bin is becoming ever closer. Alex B
Thomas have you got a link or manufacture name of the new tappets you've put in? Also have you Re checked the timing? As the K will run being a tooth out.
Alex B
Is the cam ladder properly torqued up?
scatty
If it were me, I'd be dropping it off at somewhere like Unit4 or Dans and leaving it until it was sorted. Admittedly I know nothing about engines, but you could be going on forever and a day trying to solve it. Give it to the experts...
