Thinking It Might Be Time To Sell

Just done the annual mot and I've covered 595 miles since the last one. With our first baby on the way im not sure if the Elise is going to just turn into an expensive garage ornament.

My head says sell up and get something more practical for a daily like a GT86, TT etc. But my heart says don't do it.

Anyone looking for a very good condition 2005 111s with 37k miles on the clock.

I had the same thing with my previous "toy" car. Second child born, plus a 4yr old.

Once a month started it up, kept it polished, did some engine bay detailing, did a few little upgrades/mods and occasional tinkering.

Within 12 months I started using it for the odd Sunday morning blast & pop out to local owners meet.

Put a battery conditioner on it, SORN, keep it insured

You'll sell it, get something else marginally more practical, then realize you miss the Lotus DNA.

I've had loads of cars and all sports or super cars the Lotus is a lot of fun and one of a kind. If your looking at a TT I had a TTRS the top one the best they do a fantastic technical car but as for a drivers car what a load of c**p no fun at all din't come alive till after 120 but there again the R8 is a boring drive as well both only lasted a few months before they had to go. Just but a cheat family car as well life is to short just enjoy it to the max.

I'll second the expert FISH opinion on this - had my second S1 (111S) until 2004 and sold it because having three cars seemed crazy, as I was hardly using it etc.

Regretted selling it, bought a string of so called practical performance cars since, and ten years later I just had to get back into S1 ownership.

Keep it if you can. You WILL regret selling it..

Surely the answer is to just drive it a bit more? Also, when you have a baby and you are sick of poo, wee and crying in the house the time spent out in the elise will become a precious escape. What ladies like to call "me time".

You've done alot more mileage in yours than we have in both of our Elises put together, but I wouldn't dream of selling ours. Never really understood people wanting to sell just cos they dont do shed loads of miles every year. Makes the occasional blast all the more enjoyable.

I keep thinking 'GT86', but I think the novelty would wear off and it never has with a Lotus.

I'm going to test drive a TT and GT86 but they will have to be really good for me to change my E92 for one as I do love driving that. If I sell the Elise the replacement would need to be somewhere in between the E92 and Elise in terms of practicality and performance. I would love an Evora but prices are a little high right now but give it 12 months when things have settled down i'll be looking at seriously getting one.
