Engine Mount Vibration

Hi all I thought I would start a new post because if I attached it to the other mount post some may have already read that and miss my problem.

As a lot of other people I read the post about the engine mount inserts and thought if it smooths out the gear change then I would go for it, there was only one negative post from Mark who said the vibrations were horrendous. Mine came today and I have the same problem they were very hard to fit as they worked out to be about 4mm wider and it was really hard to get them in the U shape mount any way I did it and they were all sorted until I started it and went for a drive. The tick over vibration is horrendous it feels like you've got one of those fat vibration belts on every panel moves, shakes and squeaks the faster the revs the better it gets but even at speed with higher revs its still not right. I am sure its got to be doing some damage I only went about 5 miles just in case. I have to say it did feel a little sharper and the gears a little better but tomorrow I will be spending another few hours removing them.

So may be they don't seem to fit all cars, I dont know why this would be.

Thanks

Sorry to hear you aren't happy with the inserts.

I certainly don't have a vibration as you describe. I have read they can require a few hundred miles to bed in, so maybe persevere for a bit?

4mm sounds very interference?

These were the yellow Powerflex ones like I have yet to be fit weren’t they Martin?

Fish were your yellow Powerflex's force interface fit like that, this obviously has a huge impact on the amount of differing vibration??

Hmmm!

Yes the yellow ones, they were real tight and I think that's the problem it took me a couple of hours for all the bolt bits but it must have taken me another 2 hours with bars and bits of wood trying to push them into the U brackets, they just seems to be to wide at one point I almost sanded the sides down I'm sure this is making a massive impact on them.

There is definitely more vibration on tick-over when you fit these but it's not that bad and after all it is a track focused car, Once your above 2000rpm there was no difference on my RGB apart from the gear-change.

I used Power-flex bushes and had them fitted by Chris Neil's during a service so cant comment on the interference fit you mention, However something does not sound right ?

^ IIRC the black powerflex are stiffer than the yelllow ones, the black Elise shop ones are softer than both the powerlex types and the lotus motorsport black ones are for people who never go near a pothole!

Yep that's exactly what I have heard.
