DeanB
I am thinking of putting wider front wheels on my s2 elise so I can run 195 front tyres. What tyre options are available? What road tyres do people recommend please? Thanks Dean
John FISH Curtis
Changed your car Dean, title says Exige. Will be fitting Avon ZZR's on mine next year.
DeanB
I put exige in the title deliberately Fish because I want the gen on exige tyres. I thought more exige owners might have a look and help :-) How much are ZZRs btw, any idea? And does anyone know what they are like on damp tarmac? Compared to A048s for example (which I found to be surprisingly alright provided there was no standing water)?
cjwjames
Ive got the toyo R888s and ive been out in torrential rain and as long as you drive sensible in the wet no problems at all but in the dry when you can put your foot down they are awsome imo will work well on a weekend car and track car , if your going to still use it as a daily driver consider another option Hope this helps Colin
Martin R
I run ZZRs. Ok ish in the damp / wet if you are carefull. Possibly slightly more progressive than AO48. I have had a couple of moments in the wet though. For a road tyre look no further than AD08R. Sunning grip wet or dry for a road tyre 90 / 95% of the grip of an AO48 in the dry. Totally different league in the wet.
scatty
I've got the Avons on mine.... So far they have been fine, rain and shine, but I've been fairly steady in any wet conditions. Previously I had the ad08s which were a brilliant tyre, but only come in 205 fronts... I haven't tried these avons on track yet so cannot compare the two... I found you are very limited to what you can get in 195 size last time I looked, the avons weren't available then which prompted me to get the ad08s... John FISH Curtis
Had the ZZR on the Elise and loved them. See this SELOC thread... http://arc.seloc.org/viewthread.php?tid=368697&page=1#pid6252700
AlanS1
Dean - I am running the Avons ZZR's on the Exige. Really pleased with them in the dry and also in the wet. I was really surprised how well they was on a very wet, and a drying track of Spa earlier in the year. I nearly forgot the wonderful torrential downpour on the way back from the track. But like all semi slicks they can only dissipate so much water. I have read that Avon are due to release these: http://www.avonmotorsport.com/road-legal/performance/zzs

I agree with Martin, ADO8R are fantastic for a rad based car, Great in the wet and very surprising in the dry on track
DeanB
I like the idea of AD08s but dislike the idea of 205 fronts - I don't want to change the balance to oversteer (I ain't that good a pedaller) and I don't want to lose that sublime steering feel. scatty
You've definitely narrowed it down to three then... Avons 888 48 Now go check the prices out...... :-)
kieranexige
Toyo now offer the new 888r but I'm not sure if it's lotus size. I need to check as I fancy a set on mine next time
DeanB
So it looks like 48s are extortionate, ZZRs are dear and 888 are a bit more sensible money. Is that about right? I am leaning in the direction of 888s! Does anyone know where to get them from? Meaning at the best price? Thanks for all your help guys.
