DeanB
Eliseparts reckon their crank pulleys save 2.25 kilos over the standard item, which is a lot. I have read something on seloc however about it causing problems with the crank, probably because it introduces different loadings. What say the sensible folks on MLOC? Thank you. Martin R
I would not take the chance personally. Just machine the air con pulley off a standard one. It changes the frequency of the crank damping with a different pullley. It may or may not lead to the crank breaking? I have never had a problem using a standard one with the extra pulley machined off. If you look at a standard one the inner and outer is separated by a bonded rubber ring. The outer chasing the inner during roation damps the crank AFAIK.
Phil S1
I had a friend turn my air con pulley off, as per Martin's suggestion... Full thread info here:- http://www.midlandslotus.co.uk/forum/topic/59300-hgf-diy-kr1/page-
@ndy
As both Martin and Phil have said, Machine the standard pulley, don't risk the alloy lightweight ones, they don't have the in-built damper so I think this is asking for trouble.
DeanB
This sounds like good advice thanks chaps. Any idea how much weight is saved by machining off the redundant end pulley? Do you think it will make a noticeable difference to throttle response?

I doubt it's saves much more than 400-500g if that and I would be surprised if you would notice an advantage if that was your only mod.
AlanS1
I found that this modification allowed you better access to the crank pulley nut and not really much else.
