keo
I did a track day on Saturday at Castle Combe(first track day in the lotus). It was sessions, not open pit and I wouldn't say I was heavy on brakes. But on my second session my pedal went soft. What brakes would people recommend? Looking at new fluid and pads really. I haven't had my geo checked, I have no reason to but I would like to have it checked. What is the best place to go? I am in Stoke but don't mind traveling Thanks
dobbo
If you don't know when the fluid was last done (if at all), just start with that and go from there. Standard brakes with fresh fluid should be more than enough until you're well in to trackday world (apologies if you are, no 'teaching grandma to suck eggs' intended...). I had a pedal go to the floor at the end of the start/finish straight at Oulton Park and it was seriously scary. I had RS42s on with Eliseparts ali-belled disks but still boiled the fluid. A fluid change a couple of years ago and it's been fine since, even after the 2 straights at Donny last month.
keo
I had my car serviced at Unit 4 a couple of months ago and Gav bled my brakes. I said I would be doing a few track days. Strange how the pedal went soft. I can see that being scary dobbo! I love Oulton, I haven't been for a few years but that is where I want to go for my next TD. DeanB
I agree with Dobbo. You shouldn't be boiling even standard brakes on an Elise if you aren't going mad with them. Sounds like old fluid to me. If you do want to upgrade pads I like Carbon Lorraine RC5 +. Some prefer Pagids. Probably worth searching on here for the whys and wherefores. My post crossed with yours! I would ring Gav and ask him.

If you also plan to use the car on the road, have a look on SELOC for recent threads on CL5 pads (not sure now different the CL5+ are, but the resellers seem dis-interested in the CL5 problems). No personal experience, but scary reading. They might suit you, Dean (are you taking me out at Donny in Oct ?) but there's no way they'll be going on my car ! KurtB
RC5+ here. Very feelsome, amazing bite and zero fade at Blyton.
AlanS1
RC5+ on both the S2 Exige, (done Donno, Blyton and Spa) and S1 (Rockingham). Very pleased with the feel and bite. I have used previously used Pagid RS42 on the S1. Was great initially, but lost their bite after half a dozen trackdays and only just over half worn. I have since been told that they are endurance pads so not ideal for repeated heat cycles. I cant say if this is 100% accurate though. Use a top quality brake fluid and make sure that the old stuff is fully flushed out. Just a quick bleed and top up is not adequate.

Phil S1
Have you got braided hoses fitted? If not then that may well make a difference
keo
No I haven't Phil, I read you need to remove the front clam to change the hoses. But that was on an Exige is that true?

IMO Not true all brake hoses for the elise and exige are accessable and can be replaced just as with any other car its a great and inexpensive upgrade that Will transform the car
keo
Thanks cjwjames, Another thing added to my list. Makes sense if I am changing the fluid as well. Need to do some research on what parts to get now: Pads Fluid Braided hoses Maybe discs I had Ferrodo DS2500 pads on my old Clio Trophy never had brake fade with them and they did see some abuse around Oulton
Phil S1
You can definitely change the hoses on a S1 with the clam on, I presume it should still be possible on the S2 as well
DeanB
I seem to remember that the clam may have to come off to do the brake hoses on the 111R. Not sure though. Gav knows. They definitely don't need to on k series s2s.

Dean Interesting ? about the Toyota engine cars your right Gav didn't remove the clam of my k series S2 if that's the case consider other potential jobs while clam off .
