@ndy
After getting my S1 back today from Option1 I thought I would see if I could find out why it was a little lumpy between 2000 & 3000 rpm and in my opinion a little sluggish until it gets above 5000rpm. I started by checking the plugs and I found No.2 plug is very sooty compared to the others. To help diagnose I put all new plugs in I had kicking around in the garage, I took the car for a 10-15 mile run and checked the plugs again, still the same ? I then swapped the coils and leads over but after a short run I found No.2 had sooted up again. Then I replaced No.2 injector with a spare I had but this made no difference also ? I also checked for any air leaks but can’t see or hear anything obvious and changed the crank position sensor. I can only think of doing a compression test next unless someone has some ideas ? Cheers Andy. PS – 1st class repair by Option

russelld
Dizzy cap, lead, faulty plug( although you say you have changed the plugs ) or a valve problem ( wronge clearance or sticking ) Also could be the butterfly on no 2 throttle not opening as far as the others. Steve J
If plugs injectors coils and leads not at fault then I'd check for piston ring and valve stem seals.

No dizzy on my engine...... I have to do a compression check to compare cylinders. I need to check live readings from the Emerald but cant connect since having the car mapped recently, I think a call to Dynotech on Monday is the next step. If plugs injectors coils and leads not at fault then I'd check for piston ring and valve stem seals. New engine just rebuilt with under 250 miles completed so hopefully none of the above
jody391
Daft question and I'm sure you have done this but is the plug gaps correct? Also the inlet gasket, if you spray some brake cleaner/wd around the injectors do the revs drop/rise?

Also the inlet gasket, if you spray some brake cleaner/wd around the injectors do the revs drop/rise? Checked the plug gaps but may try a different plug with different heat range as I know this can be a problem, however not sure whys its just the 1 plug ? Will try the leak test with WD40, Not heard of that before, Cheers Jody.

Martin R
Andy, if you get a low reading on no2, i think i have all you need to do a leak down test. Worth doing a cold and warm test?
Martin R
Andy, another thought. Have you had the TB,s balanced? Maybe number 2 is letting in a bit less air?
