Dr H
Self employed environmental consultant. Been doing it now for almost 13 years. I currently earn about half of what I did 8-10 years ago (that's not taking into account inflation). I have some very very good years but it's not so good at the minute. In fact I'd say that this year is one of the worst I've ever known. Well done on the promotion - I wonder if I could get myself one?
jako999
Im a paramedic and all I can say is the NHS is in such a mess due to far to many high payed managers and not enough of us low payed real workers. Most people like myself and nurses do it because we love it, considering the amount of work we have to put in and the fact "their life in you hands" and so on we earn less then a bin man, sorry ive got nothing against bin men its a hard job. Well done on the promotion.
Simon Mac
I co-founded a software house, and now employ >100 staff in 3 countries. My advice if money is important is to set up on your own. If avoiding stress is important then work for someone else.
Martin R
I work on the maintenance at JLR. I fix / break everything from small pumps, motors, conveyor systems and also bugger up the odd robot on a good day A bad day is cutting up a Range Rover shell that has floated off in a paint tank. A good day is watching loads of cars being built. The variety is fantastic as i get bored very easily

Well done on the promotion. Thats the reason i left the NHS. Taking 3K off my wages was the final straw. I went into the private sector and nearly doubled my wages. Bloody shame as generally the NHS is a great institution and one of this country finest attributes.
