rocketian
When you say the heater has stopped working - do you mean the fan - if so it is almost certainly the fan relay which is buried deep under the radiator - there is an upgrade kit available, but it is a "clam-off" I'm afraid. There are 2 types of S2, those that have had a fan relay failure and those have haven't had it yet !
StormS2
Yeah the fan:( basically when I turn the knob to turn it on(from 1-3)nothing happens!so the whole clam has to come off!?is it not accessible by taking undertray off:( how much would this cost do you think? jonnyfox
Clam off, Peter is bang on. Depends on labour charge. Relatively straight forward, once the clam is off then clam on realignment. 3-4 hours I would imagine the charge. Edit. Someone like JSR was £45 an hour I think x3 hours plus parts
DanP
Oh bugger! I've got an s2, no aircon. Does the same hing happen to non-aircon S2s? Fan stopped working for a few weeks, then started working again. Now not worked for a month or two.
Pie Warrior
no such problems with an old S1, full air con = roof off and windows down and go like the clappers

DanP
no such problems with an old S1, full air con = roof off and windows down and go like the clappers Which works well to de-ice windows in the winter ;-)
Pie Warrior
Which works well to de-ice windows in the winter ;-) sussed the de-icing windows in winter, using the Heath Robinson approach 1. buy a world war two gas mask and goggles 2. attach pipe from tumble dryer to exhaust 3. route heat into car...... a7esk
http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Resistor_pack This might help.
Simon Mac
My old S2 Exige needed a new resistor pack. It had A/C and was >£800 at Lotus Stratstone to put right (fortunately it was on contract hire, so the lease company got that bill!). Did it just stop working altogether? Mine started with intermittent operation of speed #2, then got worse. Whilst it's probably the resistor pack, it could also be the fan itself. Either way though, it's clam off So you might as well put an alloy rad in if not already done at the same time (like resistor packs there are 2 sorts of S2 ones that have had a replacement rad, and those that will need it) IOW if you have either job done, get the other done at the same time as preventative maintenance. AndyPeat
I did mine myself through the service panel (from the link a7esk provided above) it was a right pain in the arse although I've known people do it without much of a problem. Saves you taking the clam off. The main problem is rotating the fan out to get to the bugger, then rotating it back in.
DanP
http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Resistor_pack This might help. Ta, but resistor pack symptom is that some speeds work, while others don't. If all of them go/come back at the same time, it's gona be something else Dan Yes - just the same, it happened to my S2 without aircon Double bugger! a7esk
Sound like the pack to me had the same issue with my 111s then a burning smell when it gave up completely.
