S1 Exige Suspension Refurb.

Today, I had a call from a chap called Lance to tell me my exhaust tailpipe was ready for collection. Lance is OJZ Engineering and based in Weston, near Newark. I felt quite humbled for him to be working on a part for my lowly Lotus, after his neighbour told me (when I asked for directions) that Lance normally worked on "real exotic stuff".
At Lances invitation, I was shown into his workshop, where the following confronted me. Of ALL the cars in the world EVER, this and the GT40 are totally beautiful to my eyes. I just can't take it all in, this car (it's the real deal with Historic paperwork to ensure provenance), is just such an engineering delight and achingly beautiful! I present the Lola T70:
And Lance is willing to hand craft exhausts for our cars too. Please tell him I sent you ;-)

Superb Kurt, looking forward to reading all about it. I'm sure we can help each other buddy :-) Lol I'm relying on plenty from lots of people.

Stunning GT40!

Thanks Jonny. It's a Lola T70 MkIIIB (I think), but you're right it was stunning! Pics to follow later of my suspension parts. They're all zinc chromate coated, but I'm clear POR 15 coating the lot. I'm following your refresh, and wish you luck with it all :-)

Looking good Kurt. I like the passivated and clear POR look. Wish I'd done that on mine.

Good find on the exhaust front, always good to have a craftsman who is willing to work on our cars. He can make me some manifolds for the Alfa V6 when I build my Stratos......wink.gif

Just looked at OJZ's site. The man's an artist!

What else have you got planned, any sneaky mods or other refurbs?

Sadly Jonny, just a refurb as I'm on a budget.

Leigh, yes he'd do an exhaust for your Stratos! The man is a legend after having a bit of a Google, but his high end customers swear by him. Lance told me that he's worked on a system for a Duratec Exige aiming for 300hp N/A, which they achieved (306bhp). I could have talked to him for hours but was a little compromised by my daughter who wanted to touch everything :-/

Thanks for the comment on the zinc and POR, it's a drawn out process as there's so much to do, but it'll hopefully last another 15 years.

Cheers,

Kurt

Dean banned me from venturing into this technical section. I just wanted to see what your up too Kurt.

It just reminds me of the last top gear, when these men go into their garages and don't come out until the spring....

Right that's me out of here..... Il wait till you put some pretty pictures up....:-)

Lol at Scatty!

I'm about to fit oem spec wishbone bushes, are they lubricated prior to fitment? I can't find any ref in the Elise workshop manual.

I like to do the best I can for my customers. I have several thousand happy owners world-wide who've spent their hard-earned on my products.

I supplied you a very high-spec exhaust, complete with V-band connectors.

The final part, the tailpipe,  was slightly tilted - annoying because this had never happened before - and I've made a lot of S1 Exige exhausts.

I asked you to send the exhaust silencer + tailpipe back to me, so I could bolt it all into the jig and check on everything - you refused!

Now, given that I like things to be perfect, this did not compute. YOU want the perfect exhaust. I want to supply it to you - but you won't help me to achieve this?! Then began this stupid back-and-forth with the damned tailpipe - stupid/time-consuming/expensive. I waited for the final attempt to be returned for welding - nothing. Never heard another peep.

But of course, you need to have a good whine/moan about it on an internet forum. I have no problem with that BUT you will hear my side.

I think we manufacturers should have our own forum where we can detail our experiences. Now that would be interesting.

I realise as a manufacturer my place is in the wrong and I'm always being told - "Jim, just make your exhausts and keep off the forums."

Why should I allow you to denigrate me and my business - with no right of reply? I know there's no "right of reply" because when I last tackled a vexatious poster, it was apparently a "PR disaster" - for me a "PR disaster" is allowing you to post your complaint without my views being heard.

You say you'll go to ***** when your 2bular is "fubared" - no you won't.

IF and it's a big IF,  your exhaust does have a problem in future, I want to know about it - so I can assess the problem and be given the chance to fix it. You've paid good money - why spend even more on another exhaust? Unless of course, you enjoy being stubborn/unco-operative and would rather run to the forums for a good whine?

I'm off on my hols now - Have a Nice Day Sir!
