Ian C
Boiled my fluid today, so need to replace. Does anyone know which fluid Lotus uses as standard in the V6? And, what should I replace it with?
pa28pilot
Lotus VSI Section JM reads as follows: "Use only a fresh supply of DOT 4 non-mineral type fluid, identified by a yellow and black symbol. Do NOT use DOT 5 silicone fluid, or any fluid which has been exposed to the atmosphere for more than a brief period, or any fluid suspected of being wet, dirty or contaminated. Do not overfill." Section TDV lists brake fluid as: Brake system hydraulic fluid Capacity 450 cc Type Non-mineral (non-petroleum) hydraulic fluid Specification DOT 4 Approved product PETRONAS Tutela Top 4 brake fluid Lotus approval reference PE-00139
chris_h
Its expensive but castrol srf is the best. You'll never have a problem with boiled brakes again. Opie oils was the cheapest place last time i bought.
jonnyfox
You'll maybe need to replace SRF twice a year at least, excellent stuff though. But I used Motul RBF660 towards the end of my S2 ownership, as well as being cheaper I found it excellent too. I know Track Group use it on there race cars. Edit due to unable to multi task! chris_h
I found once a year was fine with my srf, even years when i did a lot of track and road miles never had any extra pedal travel.
pa28pilot
Presumably the OP, with an LF1 and still within the three year factory warranty, will want to preserve it...?
chris_h
Using a different brake fluid will make no difference to warranty. Srf is what lotus sport uses on the cup cars/ racing cars. When i had my car serviced there it was always a service option.
Ian C
Thanks for the help and opinions. I'm thinking of getting some Motul RBF 600, how much do I need to order?
@ndy
Another user and vote for Motul RBF600.... 2 x 500ml should be more than enough
