Alex B
My car appears to be running a tiny bit on the lean side According to my afr gauge and has been for a about 2/3weeks. I've also had a judder come back when travelling at constant speed and a shitty idle. At first I put it down to the Afr so ran through the diagnostic checks and have just replaced the sensor even though it's only 4/5months old. No joy at this point. Now if it's running lean then this says to me the fuel system being at fault. So far I've tried a different set of second hand injectors - no change Different FPR- still no change Any other suggestions? Or fault find tips? All help is welcomed as I've just about lost any love I had left for the car.
russelld
Any of your sensors starting to give false readings could give the symptoms you describe. TPS Temp sensor cam position sensor / not sure if your engine uses this, all EU3 engines do but only VVC EU2 AFAIK Crank sensor TMAP / again on EU2 this was in the ECU but on VVC was attached to the plenum LAMBDA certainly would in closed loop running which is where it sounds like you are having the problems. Looking at the live screen would let you know if the coolant temp, rpm,air temp are working as they should, the load site will give ref to the TPS this should read 0 with the throttle closed and 15 with it fully open. With the engine running above idle 1500 and above the IAC position no should read 0 and be green, if it is coloured red then the ecu is trying to control the idle valve with the throttle open which it should not. If all sensors seem to be working ok can you turn off the closed loop option ( I have no idea how you do this but I'm sure it is in the Emerald manual ) so you just run open loop. If it runs ok in open loop it would indicate problems with your wideband sensor. Russ. Edit : Also have you checked both manifolds and the exhaust for leaks ? Alex B
Thanks for the ideas Russ. The car is setup to run in open loop all the time. I'm also having the same running issues when the lambda is turned off. I can rule out: Can sensor as this is unused on solid cams. Will do some trouble shooting through your points once I'm home. Thanks again Alex
scatty
Shit mapping???? Does it just need a map tweek to sort the fuelling out.... Didn't you have it mapped not long ago? Get it back on the rolling road and see what the issue is.....

Get it back on the rolling road and see what the issue is..... It ran lovely for 500 mile then I left it parked u for a week come back to it and it's not been right since. Martin R
I presume you have a copy of the map when it was done? Try reloading it?
Alex B
Yup done that Martin. Even tried previous versions that have different fueling with no luck. I have however found a buggered HT lead so that will be replaced tomorrow and we shall see where we stand. Martin - borrowing the timing kit is a just for double check of the timing. Alex B
New HT leads fitted. not a massive difference. Swapped the crank sensor for a known working one, This has made big difference to the juddering. However still looks like it's running lean. Exhaust off tomorrow to check for leaks. scatty
I think you need the map checking.
Alex B
Think I've found the issue If I squeeze the pipe between the iacv and the TB it improves my idle brings the lambda reading to where you want it. Also the iacv position isn't at its mapped point. Gonna find the spare one tomorrow. I think you need the map checking. Scatty the map shouldn't be at fault as it ran fine with it for 500 odd miles it wasn't until I left it for a week it started Misbehaving. It came on gradually. scatty
Have you picked gavs brains, or dans... That bloody car... It must be driving you insane....
Alex B
It's really pissing me off to the point of it's going once sorted. It was Dan who sorted the map out. Rang him n he said they must be an underlying issue somewhere
kieranexige
To be replaced with....... Friend of mine had a problem with his rx7 running lean. Turned out under load it was sucking the intake pipes in nearly closed.
scatty
Would a faulty fuel pump cause any issues... Had a faulty one on a scoob once, sadly can't remember the symptoms.... Doh.....
Alex B
I've narrowed it down to the afr unit being faulty, so that's been sent off for a replacement. However I've now put the car back to running Vvc and it runs sweet as a nut Well chuffed.
