jako999
Hi all I know my exhaust is my real sound system but I also like music so far all stock so what have people gone for ? Looking a a cheap Sony head that gets great reviews but its the speakers that are the problem I have a sub in the foot well so what to go for at the rear should I try and go larger and so on? I have a set of infinity somewhere to try in the front. The damp ant heat in a cab kill speakers so I don't want to spend a fortune plus what sounds good in one car is rubbish in another its like the house I spent 3k in the lounge but it still sounds wrong because of the room. I like it loud any help please. Thanks

jako999
I have been looking at the new infinity range ordered a new head unit a real bargain Sony 4.9 out of 5 with loads of reviews was a good price at 130 then 89 before I came away and looged on to halfords and now only 59 Bluetooth hands free the lot so reserves one for when I get back. John FISH Curtis
Alpine would have been my choice but you have the Sony now. Dynamat anywhere you can, you need to cancel out external noise. Infinty speakers are good but need a good source (head unit) to power them correctly. Match your speakers to your head unit output. Your front speakers create the sound stage, so these are more important than the rears. Subs need good quality cables. Run power separate from the source cable. Keep the negative as short as possible. Your battery also takes a hit, so keep on top of your battery condition.
Dr H
Which ever way you look at it there is nothing that will ever sound any good in an Elise. I have a set of custom made speakers from a guy on SELOC who works for a hi-fi company. They are good but still pretty crap compared to the system in my daily driver. Simon Mac
I'm with Dr H. on this one. My daily driver has a basic version stereo (premium audio was extra), I know whatever I do I won't get near in an Elise, no matter how much I spend My last car I did the whole dynomat "cups" behind the speakers, sub, upgraded speakers, etc. etc. ultimately you are on a hiding to nothing This time round I just went for some "background music" when I'm driving. In my case for me the biggest feature to put in was handsfree and Bluetooth streaming, everything after that was gravy Amazingly a £90 Pioneer, gave me handsfree, bluetooth, and actually improved the audio. (If anyone from Lotus reads this, please, please, ditch that rubbish Alpine thing that comes with the current cars!)
jako999
The bass was sorted with a great bit of kit InPhase 6" sub built in amp and in alloy case and I shopped around so all for £130 it fits really well in pasanger well I moved the step forward a bit then foam around the alloy behind and cable tied the mount to the bunch of cables under the dash I can really recoment one Thanks all
DanP
DAB radio reception is awesome, and useful for long journeys. Bluetooth audio promises a lot, but is still a faff to connect for short journeys.

WRT to Bluetooth, I would have agreed with you, but this is the first time in 4 cars with Bluetooth and various phones I've got it to work properly, and reliably. Pioneer head unit (because they use Parrot chips) and a Sony Xperia, using it's built in "SmartConnect". Switches between calls and music, you can skip tracks using the buttons on the head unit, shows incoming call ID, missed, recieved and outgoing call logs, contacts, etc. etc. I would prefer a double din unit, Lotus managed to fit one to the Tesla, but getting hold of the centre vents for the Tesla (which are basically semi-circular) is pretty much impossible. commievid
If there was an easy way to get double din into a non-airbag S2, I'd be well up for it.
