Chris_edeson
I know a few people on here have an interest (and rightly so) in old war stuff so i though i would share this great story. http://www.jackfmoxfordshire.co.uk/news/oxfordshire-news/arctic-convoy-heroes-honoured-in-oxford/ Becka's (my girlfriend) Grandad was part of the Arctic Convoy, as featured in the documentary Jeremy Clarkson covered a while back. He has already recently been sent a medal from Russia to add to his collection, however, he was recently written to by Vladimir Putin offering him a further medal from the Russians for the efforts in that Mission. The event took place yesterday at the Town Hall in Oxford and they were presented with the medals. The service was for the surviving troops and the family of those no longer with us. A really proud day for all of Becka's family and for me. Makes us feel a million miles away now in Australia and not being able to be there. Such a nice man, but like many of the people of this era, very humble about what they id for our country and does not talk about any of the memories/nightmares from this time. Well done Bert.
