Hi guys just bought an S2 storm titanium just standard 120ish bhp, this is my 4th elise in the last 10 years, seem to keep coming back an wanting another!its a 2003 2 owner and only 17,000 on the clock,I'm just after some advice if possible,I'd like some more power and a bit more grunt!i find the s2's especially just the standard edition quite tame, not after massive gains, maybe 30hp or so,what's the best route without spending fortunes?

Hi!

I just sold my S2, which sounds a very similar spec to yours. I wanted more power, but in the end couldn't justify putting money into the car I'd never see back. (I was also worried about the potential reliability issues. The stock 120 is probably the most reliable of the K's )

I found the best upgrade was to change out the wheels, and put some better brake pads on. I put some Team Dynamics and some wider Toyo T1-Rs on plus some Mintex 1144s, and it made an immense difference to braking and grip.

It did have an induction kit on it, which whilst probably not making much difference to BHP, did make it sound nice in tunnels :D

Personally yours looks so clean and tidy, and with so few miles, I'd be really tempted to keep it as original as possible.. Enjoy it for a few years, as a future classic.    cool.png

Hi and welcome  thumbs_up.gif

When i had my standard K I saw some nice gains with an exhaust, de-cat and induction kit.  Made it sound lovely too  :)   That should give you 15-20bhp.  To get more your best bet is to consider some of DVA Powers packs:  www.dvapower.co.uk

He gets good reviews and feedback in the Lotus community so you could do worse.

This as said above or sell it and buy a 111S :))

Thanks everyone, yeah I see what your saying but modifying cars(tastefully)is a bit of an addiction, the car is clean but it is a lotus and had the usual chips and little scrape, although it's a low miler and owner I think it probably looks better now than it has in a long time!some people just don't have a passion for cars and leave them un cared for,I remember one of my S1's had been re mapped is this do able on the standard S2 that was something I was considering, exhaust on its way and induction kit fitted last week which definitly does help the smile factor!

Hello and welcome to MLOC

Standard Ecu isn't remapable.

Exhaust and induction will help it breath loads better.

Another little mod to consider is a 52mm throttle body.

I'm also sure Jody will be along to convince you to go down the mgf135 cam route.

There's loads of us with modded K's on here in various states of tune.

Engine wise I'm running:

VVC 160 lump

Standard vvc head

Piper 633 solid cams w' verniers

4branch and system

52mm TB

Vvc plenum

S1 itg induction kit

Setrab oil cooler

Emerald Ecu

This made a solid 150bhp and 130ft-lb on Dan websters rollers when sorting the map out the other day.

This setup has made anywhere between 150bhp and 170bhp

depending on the rollers

Cost wise it's cost me somewhere north of £3k but that includes a full engine, gear box purchase and 3 mapping sessions.

That's doing the work myself with a couple of little f**k ups along the way.

Also If I hadn't had to buy a new engine (after blowing my first one up) it would be nearer the £1500/2000 mark.

Welcome.. :)

As Alex mentioned I am a fan of the mgtf 135 camms, they can be used with std pulleys and std ECU.

They cost around £135 too so a massive gain for cost! I'm running an S2 manifold which has been Fettled and an S2 ITG induction and the car made 136bhp and 133lbf of torque and previously on the original camms made 118bhp and 129lbf of torque.

I've just fitted a LSD too.

Hi thanks for this,it sounds more like the money I'd like to spend and I'd be happy with these sort of power gains,is fitting quite easy/costly?
