Stealth Speed Cameras On M1

Noticed in the last few days stealth speed cameras have been installed on the M1 J26 > J25 southbound. They are on side arms attached to the gantries. There's also a set about 200 yards before variable speed limit too. The stealth ones are meant to do you over 70mph and heard they do if you are speeding up to a variable speed camera then backing to slow down then speeding back up, so you'll get done for that too. Been told they also been installed on north of j26 on both sides to but not been up that way yet, so be careful on the m1

So how many serious crashes have there been around there compared to anywhere else???

Yes strictly speaking we should not speed but does doing 80 mph actually cause crashes or more fatalities (they did not think so before the last election when they said they would increase the limit to 80mph) the motorist is just an easy target!

Seriously is there any paper or pres release detailing why they are blacket coving the M1 with speed cameras, is it safety (was there really an issue?), environmental issues (reduce emissions if traffic is slower) congestion reduction, or money making?

I saw them flashing Saturday evening northbound 26/27..

Hopefully I wasn't flashed hooning the other way...ridiculous if they are getting drivers just over 70. Id be keen to find out what speed they are flashing at...

Proper money earner they will be.....

What really makes me laugh is that central Government have instructed Councils to allow motorists 10 minutes grace beyond the expiry of a Parking Ticket with the instruction that Parking Fines are not a cash cow for the councils. So please explain Mr Central Government how these cameras on Motorways are any different. Some expression about pot, kettle and black springs to mind!.

By all accounts they are just testing them at the moment... That's according to some speed safety group for nottingham.

Bet they don't tell us when they have stopped though....

I know this may sound controversial, but why bother speeding on the motorway? It's dull as ditchwater to drive on them with lots of idiots with poor lane discipline, poor spacing between cars, drivers distracted with the things inside their cars etc etc. Its a time to people watch I find, totally fascinating, though not too distracting.

Better to get your driving thrills on country roads, lots of twisties, less traffic (though most still insist on driving at 42 mph EVERYWHERE), overtaking opportunities abound, and best of all, very few scameras.

Likewise, there are track days too...

Oh, and just to make it clear, I utterly detest the previous governments "Speed Kills" campaign. Sadly "Lack of situational awareness and driving beyond your ability kills" isn't quite as catchy.

Issue with country roads is on coming traffic on the wrong side of the road and trees oh and push bikes around blind bends...

Why go over 70 mph on the motorway, because they want to get to where they are going quicker, nothing to do with racing and why not if it isn't dangerous...

As above if 5 years ago 80 mph was fine why the draconian enforcement we are now seeing?

I'm a busy man Kurt, I need to get to the golf course. Tootling along at 70mph when I know there's roadworks three junctions up which reduce me to 50mph... It's all time consuming and utterly boring....

And as for middle lane hoggers, and fast lane hoggers doing the speed limit.....arrrrrgggghhhhhhhh... :-)
