New Elise S2 Owner! *updated With Pics!

Hi guys,

great to finally be here! Picked up a black 51 plate Elise S2 yesterday and couldn't be happier.

Will post up pics when I take some!

The paintwork on the Elise is a little worn in places, what can I do to restore this? Or should i say where is the best place to go (I'm based in Chesterfield).

Also, some of the interior is a little worn as to be expected. Is there any products out there to replace or cover the big arm rests on either side?

Although I'm happy with the performance (it's a k series standard) I'm considering getting a decat exhaust system and some form of induction filter. Has anyone else on here done this and how does it effect the sound/performance?

Looking forward to Chatsworth!

Hi Simon

Welcome to MLOC!

If you can post up some photos of the paintwork I can can give you an idea of what is possible, by hand, without risk to the paintwork by using Swissvax products. They are expensive put it's amazing what you can achieve with them!

When I had my K series Elise I had a Hurricane air filter and a Larini Clubsport exhaust and it sounded amazing....IMO!

Welcome :)

Depends how bad, I got my resprayed last year in Burton by a friend of Gav at Unit 4, great work and a good price too :)

I've got a hurricane induction kit and janspeed backbox, love the sound :D, negligible performance gain for me but its only a backbox..

I have a K&N cone filter and Hangar111 superlight back box. It sounds a lot better and may be a teeny bit more poweful. It's worth it for the sound and weight saving (12 kilos I think - loads really just for a back box) at the back of the car where you want it most.

Welcome to MLOC btw. I am sure you will enjoy your car - my s2 is pretty much standard and I love it. The brake pads have been upgraded to Carbone Lorraine RC5+ though which I would highly recommend.

Hi Simon, welcome on board.

Depending on what is needed you may be bales to pull the paintwork back, I do my own polishing with meguires and swissvax products and my G220 DA

If you do want someone to do it for you these guys are said to be good and they are swissvax approved

If it needs paint, I use Prestige bodyshop in Birdwell (M1 jct 36)

They have changed the colour of mine 3 times now, this is my latest colour, they will of course do repairs and work for many NYLOC members

Do not get dragged in trying to do too much straight away, take your time and make the right decision, I have had my S1 for 13 years and am only just sorting some real upgrade suspension.

Exhausts are something that you want to get right first time as being stainless you are unlikely to replace them for a very long time. I took my decat off as it made the car too noisy, I now have a silenced decat which is much better but I am thinking of getting a sports cat.

Air filters, I have been through a few, I started off opening up my OE air box and sticking a K&N panel filter in, it made the right noises, looked stock and was cheap.

Having said that you can pick up a decent 2nd hand filter for little money (most S1 filters can be made to fit a S2 with little effort (you can't do this with the S1 ITG)

My first 'real' filter was a BMC CDA 85-150 (if you go for one of these make sure it is a real one not a cheap copy and that is is the larger 85 (diameter of the inlet and outlet) -150 (length of the filter), they were the filter of choice for reasonable money. It is a universal filter so I had to get the silicon hose and cut it to fit and make a support bracket, the kit comes with some bits to make the bracket with, ( easier than it sounds) you will also need a reducer to match the pipe to the throttle body (you can just make that out in the picture)

This is now on our lasses Focus ST

The 2nd filter I had was a Pipercross viper, the silicon pipe in the picture is a replacement bit (silicon pipe can be purchased for £15 via ebay

This worked well and it would still be there if I hadn't got my 3rd filter. I sold the Pipercross to a guy with an S2 and it fitted with no real issue, he just cut off the bend from the silicon hose.

I then got my 3rd filter , an ITG maxogen, the rolls Royce of air filters for the k-series, this is the only one that will not transfer to an S2 they have a separate kit for those (see below)

This is the S2 ITG , you will see the filter goes straight in to the wheel arch, they also do a cheaper version out of alli instead of carbon fibre

Wow thanks everyone, very useful answers!

Dennis your right, my tendency is to try and do everything and get it sorted straight away!

Today was my first full day in it, absolutely loved it. SO different from the E46 M3 I had previously!

My first job is to get the paintwork sorted, possibly take it to a specialist for a check over.

Nice car ! I was concerned by the tyre condition of first picture !

Good spot, get that changed!!

When I got mine it needed a lot of paint but I enjoyed it for a year or so first, fixing the little bits like, tires, rad that started leaking, brake pads, geo etc. Then the odd track day without worry about stone chips etc.

Then when I was happy I got it painted and then started modding.
