Foggy
I have just taken my Elise out for the first time since before Christmas and found changing down from 5th to 4th really difficult and on a couple of occasions had to go straight to 3rd. It seems as though its is catching on something unless you centre it in nuetral and then pull down to 4th. The gear stick/change feels quite tight generally, even after a 30 + mile drive. Does this sound familiar to anyone, does it need lubricating? Any help would be appreciated.
philmayfield
Have a look at the "Elise Parts" gear linkage kit. Simple to fit and you will have a much improved gear change. Phil
AlanS1
I would start off by disassembling the gear lever mechanism. remove all the old grease and then put some nice fresh grease in and refit. Then see how you get on. This really helped mine.
DeanB
I had a similar problem. My gearchange became very stiff going across the gate. I bought the nylatron bush kit and Gav fitted it. I just bought the bushes not the quickshift. Gav removed the pivot thingy part of the gear linkage actually on the gearbox, cleaned it up, greased it and refitted it with the new bush and it sorted it. More than that in fact - the change is better than it ever was. Really chuffed. The bushes were fifteen quid I think and is an easy DIY job if you're not allergic to spanners. Foggy
Thanks guys for the info, I will have to have a weekend on my back underneath having a look and a fiddle with the linkage etc. I was just hoping it didn't sound anything really serious. DeanB
I doubt it's serious Foggy. The guy that sells the bushes is an MLOC member and nice bloke (he has a really nice s2 Elise). His forum name is billy something or other. He's also on SELOC.
