Thinking Of Deleting The Head Unit.

Good Morning MLOCers!

As its winter it's time for some Lotus maintenance. The old exhaust is off (see the classifieds!), the new one is mostly on (hmmm, shiney 2bular), and I'm looking at removing the stereo head unit permanently. The reasons for this are that:

1) It's temperamental.

2) The sound quality is poor.

3) It's unsightly.

4) It's heavier than a vac formed bit of plastic with some material glued to it!

Now, I'm sure the biggest issue will be getting the long bit of plastic trimmed in matching red alcantara/suede etc, but are there any pitfalls to this exercise? I generally drive the car with earphones fitted, listening to either satnav chic or suitable driving tunes, or being deafened by the VHPD (Plus) giving it the beans.

Your thoughts on this are most welcome!

Ta,

Kurt

Get rid of it and the speakers while you at it, this was one of the 1st jobs I did to mine as you can't really hear it anyway, I don't even listen to the one in the Exige and that has all the creature comforts !

That's it then, it'll happen. I need to get the single long blanking strip that runs along the dash, part number A111V0079K.

I'm not going to pay silly money for it as I'll have to get it trimmed too, so where am I looking?

Sadly SundayDriver I'd need to replace head unit and speakers if I were upgrading but to hear the stereo over the engine (it'll Rev to 8250rpm) is putting the sounds up to deafening levels. Like I said, I have an iPhone with earphones for that. Maybe if manufacturers put speakers near a drivers ears, we'd all be better off....

Mines coming out too!

Speakers are already removed just didn't want to leave a huge hole in the dash!

I'm fitting water temp and oil temp gauge in there place Kurt, Stack dials to match the stack clocks, I think you can get the same silver to.

I have a DAB radio in my "nice little elise".  Got 4 speakers one just by my right ear, and it is nice when you are pootling around town.  It can record too - so I never need miss any of my favourite programmes.  It is really nice in an Elise !

I like that Kosmo, and it could be useful having gauges there. I'm still going to add the long blanking plate though. Now I just need to find one...

I hate to tell you this Kurt but I have a long blanking plate.... I bought it earlier this year when it popped up on ebay as I actually plan on making a dash top gauge pod over the winter to get the gauges more in line of sight when driving.

PS - Its not full sale I'm afraid sad.png
