Daveb99
After an epic drive in crisp winter weather last week, I've just SORNed my S160 for the winter . Bring on March 1st ! So......I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times before, but as I'm too lazy to wade through search results, who wants to take the prize for being the first to tell me what I need to do to keep it in top order over the winter..... I've brimmed the tank, I was just going to get it clean & shiny (haven't done this for a while......pesky DIY!), put plenty of air in the tyres to prevent flat spots (say 35 PSI?), and hook up to my battery conditioner. I have an indoor car cover too so that will be going on. Is there anything else? Would it do more harm than good to start her up once a month & run for a minute or so? Martin R
Dont leave the discs wet if you wash it before putting it away. Leave the handbrake off as well.
Daveb99
Cheers Martin, yep, I always do that anyway after washing. I usually do a lap of the streets around here to dry the discs off, I'm sure the neighbours think I'm a nutter..
Eric
I'd run the engine until properly warmed up - at least 20 minutes, and at least once a month. Makes sense to also whiz round the block and trail brake a few times to keep everything nice and shiny - but only if the roads are dry!! That's exactly what I'll be doing with the Exige from now until March (haven't sorned it tho ).

KurtB
Gotta agree with Kosmo. There are some more lovely crisp days to enjoy through winter, and machines like to be used...
Steve J
Either drive it or do a full strip down and restore with pictures. Anything else makes it garage jewellery Like mine at the moment.
cjwjames
You can only use so much polish before you take the paint off so i agree with steve j full stripdown with pictures

Agreed, the Elise loves cold dry blasts. It's like having a dog, locking it in a cage and not walking it.
kieranexige
Like mine, must stop polishing! Although I'm hoping to get it back on the road before the end of Christmas. Slight bump in the nsf wheel bearing every 20 rotations or so. but that may wait until next year now. There is a difference feeding the supercharger crisp cold air for sure. Dennis
Mine is in there until the spring, do not run it unless you are going to properly drive it, just leaving it ticking over does no good. I forgot to put extra air in mine :0( Also if you take it for a run after a wash, do not put the cover back on as it will pick up dirt and contaminate the cover, get a dehumidifier in the garage instead
cjwjames
Still think a full strip and re build is best as i have meet with the owner of this car who is a topman who will do.it lol.x

Yeh, forgot to mention that bit. Vary the revs throughout the engine warm up, steady medium revs at first (idling is really bad news for a cold engine). Once it really is up to temp, do some higher rev bursts, then steady medium revs for a bit, then idle for a bit, then off. Finally, congratulate yourself for keeping your engine in tip-top condition .

Eric
Alternatively save yourself all that effort and keep using the poor thing! Agghh, mate, no. Just think about all that deadly salt, sticky spilt diesel, and even stickier farmer's crap!! Besides, looking after a Lotus isn't any effort at all - it's one of life's little pleasures .
