Engine Removal Advice Please

Recommended Posts

I'm almost ready to lift the engine and box out of my car.

The rear clam is off, all the wiring is dis connected, fluids drained, hoses off, driveshafts out so in theory it should now be just a case of undoing the engine mounts and hoisting the assembly up and out.

Before I start I have a question :

Will the gearbox clear the rear subframe or do I need to remove the exhaust manifold and alternator so the engine can swing neader to the bulkhead ? I am hoping the engine and box will rotate as a unit to give me the clearance needed without removing said items?

Any other hints or tips will be greatfully received.

Thanks :-)

Russ, I left the manifold and alternator on. As Martin says I had the engine slightly higher than the gearbox.

Ideally 2 of you is easier as 1 can operate the hoist while the other 1 holds the engine steady and makes sure nothing is catching.

Spend a little time ensuring you sling correctly as above and it will be easier.

If your struggling give us a shout.

Thanks chaps,

I'll give it a go leaving them on and getting the engine higher than the box as Martin has suggested. Hoping for a dry day off in the week so I can get the car onto the drive, the extra room will make it easier than trying to lift it out in my shoe box garage.

Done the earth strap.

Just realised I havn't done the throttle linkage yet!

The oil cooler pipes were a right PITA.

They are a right PITA. I bought a couple of crows foot spanners to make it easier. Let me know if you want them when it goes back in.
