Who's Got The Exige V6?

Been having a think about trading in the S2 Exige against a new Exige V6.  With current offers and the 333 offer its looking a good time.  

 

So I have 2 dilemnas, which colour and what options.  I am thinking the Premier Pack Sport and I like the diamond cut wheels, and AC is an obvious option.

 

Is the Race Pack worth having? What other options are considered a must or worth having?

 

What colours have people got?

This is my first time owning a lotus so can't comment on S2 to V6 transition.

 

What I can say is that everyone I know whose bought one has not regretted the move!

 

You'll want the premium race pack, I wouldn't bother with the convenience pack. Colour wise lots of choice if your ordering to build.

Options wise, I've got:

  • Premium Pack Sport - Suedetex
  • Contrast Stitching - Red
  • Metallic Paint - Arctic Silver
  • Diamond Cut Alloys
  • Race Pack
  • Air Conditioning
  • Rear Parking Sensors

I'd only spec race pack if you intend to track the car, and only if you go for Trofeo tyres too. I've got Corsa tyres and found them to go off far too quickly on track. 

Aircon is a must. It gets very hot inside the cabin without it. 

Parking sensors are far too sensitive and you often question if there's actually anything behind you.

Wouldn't bother with the upgraded brakes the standard ones work great

Wouldn't bother with the convenience pack, the cabin gets warm quickly so heated seats are a waste of time, cant say i'd ever use cruise control or the cup holder.

Obviously colour is subjective I still like mine, but laser blue does look good

@quantum2000  Yours sounds very much like the options I was going for and I was considering the arctic silver.

 

Even the interior was the option I was looking at, and the diamond cut wheels.  You got any pics?

 

@chris_h I did consider the LF1 and Oakmere (Christopher Neil) have one coming in, just not sure about gold wheels

I have to agree that the rear parking sensors are sensitive, but that's not actually a bad thing. If it beeps, take care - that could be high curb or something else expensive. Rear parking visibility is poor. For £350, it's a cheap insurance policy - and, I suspect, considerably cheaper than a rear clam repair...

 

Pemium vs Premium Sport adds some sound proofing, more leather and carpet. The convenience pack doesn't hurt either; cruise control can be useful to keep the brute "in-check" on the motorway, the USB charging port is useful - and you get the Anne Summers conversation point. AC is essential, particularly if you use the car in winter as it supplements the otherwise poor demisting capability of the ventilation system.

 

The brake upgrade reportedly only improves heat dissipation for sustained on track use. Those that have tried both standard and upgraded factory options otherwise report no diference in braking performance. If you opt for the upgraded brakes, be prepared for substantially higher part replacement costs.

I was told today that the V6 gets through brake pads quite rapidly and are expensive to replace, and that the tyres are Mercedes fitment (MO?) and not LTS - so I assume easier to source?

I still have my old Lotus key ring, albeit with dried blood on it, from my last car.....would that suffice? :-)

I do remember a conversation with a Lotus engineer at Goodwood regarding the Exige S V6 tyre options. He said that Pirelli describe the Trofeo tyre as suited to dry track use, and he said he would not have them for general road use in all weathers. I know of one owner with Trofeo tyres who is already thinking of changing.

Brake pads and tyres are pretty close to coming up for renewal after about four track days and 3000 miles, may get one more track day then they'll need replacing... I'm running standard tyres so not the trofeos.

 

Brakes wise the two piece isn't really needed, the brakes are good already on track, however I did need a brake fluid change after my first track day. Will probably upgrade pads at time of replacement vs oem.

 

I'm keen to try the trofeos but not expecting any major jump just a slight improvement.

 

AC is a must and not too bad actually, I would also say rear sensors are a must as no rear visibility.

 

The alpine head unit has a USB connector so that's good enough for charging my iPhone.

Not sure if this discount thing is a bit of a con....  its a £2k discount from Lotus then matched by the dealer, making the £4k on the Exige S.  Strangely they offer £2k less on the part ex price of my Exige than they did just a couple of months ago.... coincidence?

 

Anyway I guess you are still getting a discount and the 333 offer is still worth getting before the end of the year.
