Winter Tyres Fitted

As I'm planning on using my evora all year round I have fitted some Michelin Pilot Alpin (pa4) winter tyres to my second set of alloys.

(I've been using winter tyres for a few years on my jag xf so know how much better they are in not just in snow but also cold and damp days.)

These are winter tyres designed for high performance cars. I'm seriously impressed with them, even just on cold damp greasy roads the grip is much higher than the Pirelli corsa tyres. What has impressed me particularly though is they are still really good on dry roads. I've pushed really hard in a few roundabouts to see where understeer starts and so far the grip has exceeded my balls!

Here is an autocar video review I found while choosing which tyre to go for.

This is quite a good video comparing winter and summer tyres not just on snow but also wet cold Tarmac

In my previous post, I was expecting what lotus spec'd back in 2006 for winter tires on my elise to be unobtainable now. But infact they are still available, though rather pricey. Got one quote of

Front Pirelli 210 Snowsport 195/50 R16  £176 each

Rear Pirelli 240 Snowsport 215/45 R17  £ 168

After all that however, since I will not be doing too much driving in the elise this winter, opted to put on the brand new AD07s I had in the garage. Amazed what difference even new summer tires makes, compared to barely legal yoko summer tires. I think they had done too many heat cycles, and may as well have been made from PVC smile.png
