Battery And Idle Reving

Hello,

For the first time in a good few weeks i managed to get the Lotus out of the garage, i had to Jump start it but drove it around for about an hour before i decided it would have enough juice to start again. I pulled over and got out out for about 10 mins, when i came back, turned the key and got nothing :(

So going to get a new battery, i was thinking of this

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Lotus_Elise_1.8_2004/p/accessories-car-batteries/car-batteries/most-popular-car-battery/063-car-batteries/?444770635&0&1&cc5_993

Pretty standard and not a bad price, been told i need an 063 and i am presuming this is what i need?

Anyways back to my story, after jumping the car for a second time (which took a bit of doing) the car was reving up and down between 3000 and 4000 revs when idle, as soon as i moved it was fine, but put foot on the clutch and again all the way up to 4k. I have tried it again since and seems to be working fine, but didn't know if this was anything to worry about or was it just the ECU not resetting properly after jumping?

Advice on battery and any info on the reving would be very much appreciated!

Thanks

Thanks Martin, I have just ordered it and will pick it up hopefully tonight. I will keep an eye on the unusual revs but i think it may just have been down to the dying battery and the ECU not resetting properly.

Thanks Meister, always good to hear when somebody else has good feedback on the product :)

Hi all,

The new battery has been replaced (did it over a month ago) and not really had much time to drive it again until now. Its still having the problems with the idle revs, except now it does it from cold too. Done the whole tps reset etc to no avail. As far as i'm aware it doesn't miss a beat (touch wood) when driving or loose any revs whilst driving. Just when its at idle, it seems to go from between 800-100 revs down to about 500 revs nearly stalls but then immediately jumps back up to the 800-1000 mark again. Is this likely to be the IACV? Removed that cleaned it out, maybe its just plain broken. How would i check before forking out £45 on a new one?

Is there anything else it could be?

Thanks

James

You may have a air leak somewhere?

If you have some brake or carb cleaner, spray it around the inlet manifold area and see if the revs pick up. If they do then the cleaner is being sucked in through a air leak. You can then repeat and locate the area that is effected.

Also have a very close look at any hoses that may not be right.

Thought I would come back on here to say its solved just in case anybody else has the same issues, the new battery worked fine but didn't do anything to the revs, didn't think it would, more just futile hoping.

However, whilst I have had time to have a proper look and give it some TLC i figured out that it was the butterfly valve in the throttle body, used some carb cleaner to get rid of any junk that had get stuck and was stopping it from closing properly. Worked a treat and had no problem (touch wood) for the last 3 months!
