Simon Mac
I faced the same dilemma. In the end Sky swung it for me because they offered to half the line rental, and it's a self install upgrade to Sky fibre. The Sky hub isn't as good as the BT one, but it's plenty good enough for me to watch Netflix over WiFi on my Roku box in the bedroom, whilst kids watch iPlayer etc. downstairs over the wired connection. The biggest improvement, is (touch wood) the router hasn't needed rebooting at all, which is much better than my old one that needed rebooting many times a day Never had any throttling issues. So now I'm getting 50meg for less than my old 5meg line, happy camper.
Alex B
Bt is meant to have some reliability issues with the TV boxes.

un1eash
I've just cancelled my complete sky tv package, was paying £118 a month and not really watching any premium channel's. They offered me a whole £18 off my bill to stay. I've kept the fibre which has been really reliable but may switch as can get faster for the same price from plusnet. Dennis
I had issues with bt fibre, and there customer service was terrible, I looked to leave but it seems there is little between any of them (plusnet is bt with a Yorkshire accent) so stayed put. Steve J
The only provider I found to be reasonable were Virgin. All the others have been patchy performance and rubbish customer service. Stuck with BT now as no other provider here and the router is always falling over and not connecting to the TV.
a7esk
Do I stop with sky or move to BT or Virgin as the sky box is on its last legs . Sky member for years . Missing the rugby which is on BT sport.
pa28pilot
With the exception of Virgin cable, unless you live in one of the few self-provide rural broadband communities (or live in Hull where BT do not operate) all the fibre services are ultimately provided over BT Openreach FTTC. As such, choose the operator with package and pricing that you're happy with - or a Customer Services Team that you least hate. For what it's worth, I've not experienced any technical problems with BT Infinity. The BT router is one of the better ones. Plus, if you want the Rugby, you can get BT sport for free. Eric
I have Sky unlimited broadband (+ phone + wireless router) and really happy with it. Download speed is consistently 16Mb/sec or better, so easily good enough to watch online videos, BBC iPlayer, etc in HD. BT packages not a good value as they appear, and their so called "line rental" is about to go up by another £1 a month. So, the exact equivalent service from BT would cost me another £6 a month right now and £7 a month after the line rental increase.
DanP
I've just noticed on my Apple TV that you can buy a day pass to sky sports channels. A good option if there are only some events that interest you? Not tried it yet myself.

richbk
talk talk for me i can't believe some pays £118 per month - over £1000 per year fro tv etc. - my tt broadband is 18 meg steady connection - so no streaming drop outs for £6 per month. i pay the line rental yearly so £140 ish and have free sat for all the tv i need, so no cost after initial £200 install 2 years ago. i also have amazon prime for £49 a year so get all movies / tv i could ever need on demand. anything else i have a radio.....old school but i was brought up on commentaries of liverpool european cup victories and that set the tone for my news / sport gathering . i figure i can get new carbon seats for what sky charge and don't feel i miss out on anything that important ... if you look at cost of tv, broadband, then add in your mobile costs its scary how easy it is to spend £2k a year on stuff. all imho of course rich
a7esk
Broadband got Virgin no issues even when I do my radio show .
