Wildspark
Saw this just now on Seloc. Affects 2004- cars, but not sure about S2 111s as it also has an oil cooler.
Martin 111S
Got the recall letter yesterday from Lotus, they are going to contact again when they have a plan on what to do, basically. Not had any problems/oil leaks as yet, but they say its only affected a small number of cars so far.

Martin 111S
I've not been contacted so have emailed cs. Doesn't affect the rover engine motors from what I have heard.
Cbaileyuk
I have a supercharged exige. Apologies if I haven't updated my status. It affects me.
Eric
I got the letter earlier this week - not surprising since I've got twin oil coolers on the Exige. Could be a massive job if the hoses need to be replaced (albeit at Lotus's expense) so not looking forward to the recall notice at all :-((
Cbaileyuk
I've done the clam off and rad swap thing. It'll be quite a chunky job. Worst part will be the removal of the unions from the original coolers. I would expect a lot of the coolers will end up being swapped due to bolt seizures. Lotus have told me they will not swap hoses. The ends will be cut and new unions assemblies will be crimped on the existing hoses.
Meister
Had no letters from Lotus, so have just emailed customer services. Have just done some research and I'm pretty sure this is going to affect me! They better not scratch my perfectly detailed clam if that needs to come off! From what I have heard, front clam off, front undertray off and rear undertray off for access. I'd like to think they will make good any 'problems' that arise from the clam removal. I'd like to think they will make good any 'problems' that arise from the clam removal. It will affect that white 240 above. I've personally done the clam off thing (new rad/thread on here). They will need to remove that, undertrays, arch liners, rear undertray, like diffuser (poss). Then cut the 2 ends near filter under main block. Cut the 4 ends at the front on the near the two coolers, replace all ends, any possible damage to oil coolers through union seize will have to be made good which can only mean new coolers, refil oil, check leaks, clam back on, all trays on, arch liners back in. Ive done the job (ie rad/clam/stripdown (not the oil cooler fix!) and there is SO much scope for scratching if you are not careful. Sorry to be the bearer. I wish I could get the gear and crimper and I'd do it myself.
Christopher Lawless
If I have read it correctly, the problem is only with cars from September 2004? Mine was first registered earlier in 2004 so am I right in thinking it is fine?
kieranexige
I've emailed about mine today, If the clams off might be cheeky and ask for my front braided lines be put on. Out of interest where will they have to go into for the recall work? Kieran
chris_h
I am very surprised that lotus is choosing/being compelled to change oil lines on cars that are 10 years old. I would have thought at that age it would become a part that needed replacing due to age if there was a leak. When I took the front clam off my 2004 exige a couple of years ago (high mileage/lived outside/lots of trackdays) the front twin oil coolers and the hoses showed no signs of leaks. I was half expecting to replace them due to age while everything was off, but I saw no need. So I can't see that it can be a design issue (and doubtful manufacturing) if some are in perfect condition after ten years. I think the problem is, if they do fail they put oil straight onto/under the front wheels. But loads of front engined cars must have the same issue if a part failed. I've not head of any crashes caused by oil dumped out of the coolers onto the tyres and I'm sure the forums would be going mental if there was. kieranexige
I'm in. Quick email to lotus of my vin and 20 minutes later I got conformation mine is affected by the recall. They also updated there records with my details so that's a bonus. Might be worth a email if your not the original owner. Lotus will be sending me a letter shortly. 06 exige s with sport pack.
