Anyone Tried These Ebc Bsd Discs?

another disc/pad thread i know but im stuck between a set of discs to buy and can't find any reviews on these discs.

 

I have just bought my first lotus and it's an 08 Exige S

i have, what looks like, Pagid RS4-2 pads all round with plenty of life left but the discs need changing as they are very rusted due to lack of use with previous owner

 

i was going to spend the money on Seriously Lotus's alloy belled discs:

but then i come across these on sale and a much better price! (EBC BSD)

the write up on the EBC's sounds pretty impressive. Just wondering if anyone has tried the yet?

 

I will be using the car for fun dry weekends and the occasional track day

 

Any advice would be much appreciated

After speaking to a couple of people i've decided to put the money into the pads rather than the disc so i've just purchased a full set of the grooved ones you have linked above with a full set of Pagid RS4-2 pads and some Motul RBF600 fluid

 

hopefully that should do the job

I'm ready to refresh mine next month.

 

I'm going to stick 308mm with caliper spacers up front and belled rears. After speaking with Dave at seriously lotus I'm going to run ferrodo 2500 pads all round and see how I get on

I swapped mine out from a mix of cl' s upfront, with oems at back, to 1144's allround. I also stuck a complete set of plain discs on at the same time. replacing grooved rears, and worn plain fronts.

 

it definitely improved break balance and performance is adequate for me, but they are very squeaky when warmish. Cold they are quiet, hot they are quiet, but after a regular commute type drive could be annoying.

 

TBH I found that front tyre grip was the weakest link in the chain. I've since changed to Toyo t1s, which are a big improvement over the kumhos that were on the car.

 

I did get some fade with this setup coming down the stelvio pass, but nothing too bad. I suspect braided hoses would fix this, and for regular road use be ample.

Mixing pads front and back is a bad idea as it upsets the front rear brake bias. ( guys who race sometimes do but they are far more familiar with the effects & their brakes will be hot ! )

 

The bias will also change as the brakes warm up / cool down due to the different characteristics of the different compounds.

 

The last thing you want is rears unexpectedly locking when trial braking into a corner !

Completely agree!  It was what was on the car when I bought it, so it ended up being an "upgrade" even though I "downgraded" the fronts from CLs to 1144s
